Types of travel
Our travel offers are divided into five different types of travel. Everyone should make their choice based on their personal preferences. There are no objective reasons that speak for or against one of the different types of travel.
Our rental car tours are by far the most popular form of travel and also the most individual and inexpensive. With your rental car, you can explore the country on your own and plan your own itinerary for the day. All you need to do is reach your new accommodation before nightfall. Of course, you will also receive travel tips along your booked route, a road atlas and a travel guide together with your individual travel documents. We also have local representatives and partner agencies so that you can contact us easily around the clock if you have any questions. All our rental car tours can be started daily and adapted to your wishes at any point in the planning process.
On our small group tours, you travel together with a maximum of eight other group participants in an air-conditioned minibus, led by one of our German-speaking tour guides. We call these tours "Star Tours", and the South Africa Star Tour and Western Cape Star Tour are our absolute classics. We also have some special Star Tours on special themes in our program. All these small group tours are organized directly by us, you travel exclusively with other SA Travel customers. The camping and overland safaris from Drifters are an exception. These are mostly English-language tours with up to 17 international participants. All our small group tours start on specific dates and the itinerary is fixed. They can only be customized with pre- or post-tours.
Our privately guided tours are aimed at pre-arranged groups (couples, families, friends) who would like to travel with their own private tour guide. No other "strangers" take part in this trip. Your German or English-speaking guide will be at your disposal from start to finish and can also cater to your personal wishes during the trip, provided the booked itinerary allows for this. The tour price also varies depending on the size of your private group. The more people in your private group, the cheaper the trip is for each individual. All our privately guided tours can start daily and can be adapted to your wishes at any point in the planning process.
Our chauffeur-driven tours are a cheaper alternative. They can also start daily and can be adapted to your wishes at any point. You travel as individually as on a rental car tour, with the difference that you don't have to drive yourself. Private English-speaking transfers take you from place to place, where you take part in mostly privately guided activities and excursions, which are usually also in English (German is also possible in some regions). In contrast to privately guided tours with all-round support, there is no continuous tour guide on chauffeur-driven tours. These trips can be started with a minimum of two people, but are also interesting for families or friends with more people.
Short safaris are the ideal addition to your stay in South Africa. From the major cities of Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town, discover the Big Five and all other wildlife on guided activities deep in the African bush. Our short safaris are English-speaking, can start daily and can be adapted to your wishes at any point in the planning. There is no continuous tour guide.
