Travel categories
Our offers are divided into the following categories: Adventure, Classic, Comfort, Superior, Superior Plus and Deluxe. We are guided on the one hand by the official star rating system on site (usually only available in South Africa) and on the other hand by our personal assessment, which we gain from our regular on-site inspections.
The comfort of the individual categories may vary from region to region. Accommodation in South Africa is usually more comfortable than accommodation in Botswana in the same category (see also overview of travel countries). On round trips with several accommodations, it is normal for the comfort to vary slightly within a category, because we mainly book small and individual accommodations instead of large hotel chains that look the same everywhere. There are also differences between accommodation in cities and accommodation in more rural areas.
The Adventure */** and Classic **/*** categories are aimed at the young and young at heart who are looking for a very special adventure and can do without the usual comforts of home. Our only trips in these two categories are the Drifters safaris in non-air-conditioned safari trucks. Overnight stays are in twin tents with fixed beds (Adventure category) or simple accommodation (Classic category). In the Adventure category, there are usually only shared sanitary facilities. In the Classic category, the rooms usually have their own bathroom/WC and other facilities.
The Comfort ***/**** category corresponds to the middle class and offers excellent value for money. The accommodations are small to medium-sized guesthouses and lodges with a good three or simple four stars. These offers are ideal for price-conscious travelers who do not want to do without a certain standard, but for whom the country, nature and the surroundings are still more important than upscale facilities in their accommodation. Standards such as a private bathroom/WC in the room and breakfast on site are always available in this category.
The superior category **** corresponds to the upper middle class with a special touch. The accommodations are small to medium-sized guesthouses, lodges and boutique hotels with a good four stars. These tours are aimed at discerning travelers for whom the comfort, facilities and service of their accommodation are important. In addition to a private bathroom/WC, the rooms usually have facilities such as air conditioning, a minibar, a TV and a veranda or balcony. The accommodation almost always has a pool, a communal lounge area and a bar and/or restaurant.
The Superior Plus category ****/***** is aimed at travelers with high expectations who want that little bit extra when it comes to the service, facilities and location of their accommodation. The hand-picked accommodations are generally small and individual boutique hotels and lodges with very good four-star or basic five-star ratings. The spacious rooms and suites have all the features of the superior category, but with an even more upscale touch. The location and quality of the accommodation are also a class above.
The Deluxe category ***** is the upper class for the highest demands in terms of facilities, service, location and comfort. You stay in accommodation that is among the absolute best in the respective region. We set this standard so high that we are unable to offer accommodation in this category in some regions of Southern Africa. Travelers can therefore look forward to an exclusive experience that will fully meet their expectations.
