ABOUT THIS TRIP

The tour takes you on a rental car tour through Namibia. Experience the famous highlights during a varied program such as the Kalahari by bike or on foot, the Fish River Canyon on foot or with a 4×4 vehicle, the Namib Desert on a 2-day hike with an overnight stay in the open air, the dunes of Sossusvlei, an excursion to the Quiver Tree Gorge, Swakopmund, the Erongo Mountains on hikes, the Etosha National Park and a lodge at the Waterberg with many optional activities. We classify the level of difficulty of the active program in the medium category. You need to be in good physical condition and fitness. We only offer this tour from March to November, as it gets too hot in the months from December to February. Individual changes to the tour itinerary or the rental car category are possible on request. We will be happy to send you a personalized offer. Note: An SUV vehicle with a higher wheelbase is generally recommended, as there are many gravel tracks and unpaved roads. In the rainy season (November to May) we strongly recommend a four-wheel drive vehicle!

DAY 7 TO DAY 8 (APPROX. 230 KM):

OFF

The settlement of Aus is situated in the Namib Desert, on the Huib Plateau, about 1500 meters above sea level. Due to its location, there is a second rainy season here in winter, which can transform the endless plains into a colorful sea of flowers. A place where you can come to rest, enjoy the silence, the endless expanses and the fantastic view of the Aus Mountains. The Gondwana Sperrgebiet invites active people to go on sporting excursions. The region is also home to the legendary wild horses of the Namib, which live in small groups on the barren plains. The small town of Lüderitz and the "ghost town of Kolmanskop" are also worth a day trip. There you can experience at first hand how people lived in the days of diamond fever.

At Eagles Nest in the Aus Mountains, you can enjoy solitude, endless silence and dramatic sunsets. From your bed you can marvel at the mountain landscape through the panoramic windows of the rustic chalets. You have the option of eating at the Desert Horse Inn or catering for yourself with a barbecue package. You can also discover the landscape on hikes, nature tours or mountain bike tours (for a fee, English-speaking, organized with other people). (7 chalets: shower/WC, fan, barbecue area, fridge, safe, veranda. Lodge: restaurant, bar and reception in the buildings of the Desert Horse Inn, approx. 15 minutes away by car)

DAY 8 TO DAY 10 (APPROX. 275 KM):

NAMIB RAND-TOK TOKKIE

Day 1: Meeting point for lunch at 1 pm (you can bring your own lunch if you wish). Followed by a short hike to the first camp. Unlike at Sossusvlei, the dunes here are not high and massive, but overgrown and have a special beauty of their own. Surrounded by this impressive backdrop of mountains and dunes, you can relax and begin to "feel" the desert.

Day 2: You get up before the sun rises. After breakfast, you set off on your hike. The highlight of today's hike is the breathtaking view of the dunes and plains and the awakening of the oldest "living" desert in the world, which you can feel, smell and taste with the help of your guide. As the day progresses, your guide will explain the wonders of the Namib. As the heat increases, it's time to take a break under a pleasant shady spot and enjoy your lunch. As the heat subsides, you continue hiking up and over dunes to the second camp. After dinner, enjoy the silence of the desert.

Day 3: And once again you wake up in the atmospheric twilight just before sunrise. Today's hike is easy and you will reach the Tok Tokkie farmhouse in the late morning. The tour ends after a shared lunch.

The tour language is English and takes place with other participants.

DAY 10 TO DAY 12 (APPROX. 115 KM):

SESRIEM

The star dunes of the vlei, which reach a height of up to 300 meters, are among the highest sand mountains in the world. Especially in the early morning, the sun's rays create an indescribable play of colors on the sand of the dunes. The dead, almost 500-year-old trees in Dead Vlei, which is a sandy clay and salt pan adjacent to Sossusvlei that no longer receives any water, are bizarre. Dead Vlei is reached after a strenuous walk through the dunes. If you have a 4×4 vehicle, you can drive to the dunes yourself; with a "normal" car, you have to change to a shuttle vehicle at the end. Alternatively, the lodges offer guided drives into Sossusvlei. Another attraction in the park is the Sesriem Canyon, which is located at the entrance to the Sossusvlei dune area and can be explored on foot.

Desert Homestead Lodge is located about 30 kilometers southeast of the entrance to Sossusvlei. It lies in the middle of a 7,000-hectare private nature reserve. From the lodge you can enjoy an impressive panoramic view. Feel at home and experience the informal natural hospitality. For a fee, you can take part in a Sossusvlei excursion, horseback riding, nature tours or guided hikes (English-speaking and with other participants). If you prefer to explore the area on your own, you can also hike alone. (28 chalets: bathroom/WC, mosquito net, air conditioning (with solar power, limited use), terrace, fan. Lodge: restaurant, bar, pool, terrace, viewing deck, WiFi)

It consists more or less only of a petrol station with a store and a restaurant with a bakery where you can get delicious home-baked goods. Soliaire is surrounded by a boundless expanse. Various shimmering deserts and sand dunes, rugged slopes, deep gorges and evergreen valleys with constantly flowing springs offer plenty of variety. If you love peace and quiet and enjoy being active in nature, this is the place for you. The area is an Eldorado for all those who enjoy hiking, biking or horse riding. During these activities, you can also see various animals, including the unique Hartmann's mountain zebra or oryx antelope.

BüllsPort Guest Farm is one of the oldest farms in Namibia. Hospitality is a way of life here, as an overnight guest you are a guest of the family. At the dinner table with the other guests and the owners, there is a lively exchange of travel adventures and insider tips. Horse rides, easy walks, day hikes with or without a mountain guide (for a fee - English-speaking and with other participants) offer variety after many kilometers on Namibia's gravel roads. (14 rooms: bath/WC, air-conditioning, ceiling fan, hairdryer. Guest house: dining area, bar, pool, garden).

With paper bark trees, tea bushes, several different euphorbias and rare endemic plants, the flora here far exceeds all expectations and the gorge itself has a completely unique and interesting vegetation. Throughout the hike, you will come across cliff slate, various bird species and baboons.

The tour can be booked in two variants. You can either take a 4×4 vehicle into the mountains. Halfway along the route, you stop on a high plateau to enjoy the wonderful view of the mountains. After 2-2.5 hours, the actual hike begins with a descent into the Quiver Tree Gorge, which takes around 3 hours. The driver will be waiting for you at the end of the gorge to take you back to the guest farm. Alternatively, you can walk the entire tour, which takes around 6 hours (a vehicle will take you to the start and pick you up again at the end of the hike).
