South Africa is probably the most diverse country in southern Africa. Glittering metropolises, first-class shopping and gourmet temples and world-class wineries contrast with endless beaches, impressive landscapes and countless game and nature reserves deep in the African bush. All this makes a trip to South Africa so varied. It is not without good reason that the Rainbow Nation offers the whole world in one country.
African charm meets European comfort. South Africa is the ideal beginner's country to discover the African continent without having to give up what you are used to at home. While the south at the Cape and along the Garden Route has an almost European and Mediterranean feel, the north and east of the country are much more pristine.
Nevertheless, the infrastructure is good everywhere, sometimes better than in some European countries. The vast majority of overland roads are paved and in good condition. Petrol stations, supermarkets, hospitals and restaurants are practically everywhere and are of a comparable standard, if not higher. Even in remote areas there is Internet and good cell phone reception.
The country offers a wide range of activities, with something for practically everyone. Whether it's hiking, swimming, golfing and cycling on the one hand or abseiling, rafting and bungee jumping on the other: Everything is possible.
Despite the many advantages, a South African vacation is surprisingly affordable overall. The cost of living is quite low, restaurants are usually affordable and many attractions are free or accessible for a small fee compared to Europe. Accommodation is consistently of European standard. The country therefore offers the best price-performance ratio of all travel destinations in southern Africa.
South Africa can easily be discovered on your own with a rental car on a self-drive tour. This is the most individual and at the same time the cheapest form of travel, which starts daily and can be adapted to your wishes at any point beforehand.
On a small group tour, you travel together with a German-speaking tour guide and other foreign participants; the itinerary is fixed. It is not possible to start every day, but only on certain start dates. Small group tours can only be customized by adding pre- or post-tours.
Privately guided tours, on the other hand, can start daily and be adapted to your wishes. Your pre-arranged group (couple, family, friends) is on the road the whole time with your personal German-speaking tour guide, no strangers take part. Privately guided tours are the most expensive type of tour.
A cheaper alternative are our English-speaking chauffeur-driven tours, which also start daily and can be adapted to your wishes at any point. Your chauffeur will take you from place to place and you will take part in guided activities and excursions. In contrast to the privately guided tour, there is no continuous personal tour guide on the chauffeur-driven tour.
A trip on the famous Rovos Rail is a very special experience. In one of the most luxurious trains in the world, you can discover Cape Town, KwaZulu-Natal or the Victoria Falls, for example, on various routes, including various excursion programs. Our English-speaking train safaris start on fixed dates, and the pre- and post-trip program for the Rovos Rail journey can be adapted to your individual wishes.
Our English-language short safaris with daily departures are the ideal complement to an existing trip and can also be combined into a stand-alone trip. Individual transfers take you to your accommodation where you can take part in guided activities. Longer distances can be bridged with domestic flights.
At three and a half times the size of Germany and with all the different facets and possibilities, a South African vacation should be professionally planned. A sensible balance between "seeing a lot" and "relaxing" is important. After all, nobody wants to spend their entire vacation in a vehicle.
Distances must be estimated realistically. In some parts of the country, 100 km can be covered much more quickly than in others. For some stops, a minimum stay of several nights is recommended, for others one night is sufficient. The large number of accommodations, especially in the tourist areas, does not make the choice easy.
