ABOUT THIS TOUR

We start this small group tour, which we put together personally and accompanied by an experienced, German-speaking tour guide, from just two people. A maximum of eight people can take part and you travel in the same group from start to finish.

You will stay in selected privately run guesthouses and lodges in the Superior category ****. The warm hospitality of your hosts and the furnishings with attention to detail will make your stay a unique experience, so that you will literally feel "at home".

In a full 15 days on site, you will experience authentic South Africa up close without stress and hectic.

DAY 1: WELCOME TO SOUTH AFRICA (about 15km)

Welcome to South Africa!
After your individual arrival at the airport in OR Tambo in Johannesburg, you will be personally welcomed by a driver from the African Rock Hotel (English-speaking). After a short drive you will reach the African Rock Hotel in a safe residential area.
Here you can relax from the long flight in the lovingly designed gardens.
Did you sleep well on the plane and are already full of energy? No problem - in our excursion program you will find suggestions for exciting tours in the surrounding area.
In the evening, enjoy your first dinner in South Africa. WAMUKELEKILE!

HOW TO STAY: Overnight stay with breakfast at the African Rock Hotel in Johannesburg

The luxurious African Rock Hotel is a small oasis in the hustle and bustle of the big city and is located near Johannesburg International Airport in Kempton Park.

The eleven suites have a bathroom/WC, air conditioning, a TV, a telephone, a minibar, a safe, a tea/coffee maker, a veranda and free Wi-Fi. The Luxury Suites are approximately 30 square meters in size. The Executive Suite is about 35 square meters. The Family Suites and Superior Suites also have two additional single beds.

The boutique hotel offers a restaurant, a bar, a souvenir store, an outdoor deck with a fireplace, a garden with a pool and a spa area for a fee. A free airport shuttle is available for non-self-drive guests.

DAY 2: CANYONS AND WATERFALLS (about 400km)

In the morning you will meet your German-speaking tour guide and, well fortified by a hearty breakfast, the round trip begins and today's destination is the province of Mpumalanga - the land of the rising sun. Here lies the so-called Highveld with altitudes of over 2000 meters. The beautiful views of the lower-lying Lowveld on the edge of the Kruger National Park are created by the Drakensberg Escarpment.

The rock falls away and lies at a height of only 300 to 600 meters. Over millions of years, the water has formed a landscape that is unique to South Africa. The Panorama Route leads along this impressive backdrop, the highlights of which you will explore today with your German-speaking tour guide.

First you reach the Blyde River Canyon, 26 kilometers long and 800 meters deep, as well as the "Three Rondavels", which are reminiscent of the typical round huts of the locals. The tour continues to the Bourke's Luck Potholes. Deep holes have been carved into the rock by erosion, particularly by the movement of stones in whirlpools. Dip your feet into the wonderfully refreshing and clear spring water.

We continue to the "God's Window". Here you can see as far as the Kruger Plain on a clear day. After another stop at Berlin Falls or Lisbon Falls (time permitting), you will reach your next overnight destination, Ndhula Luxury Tented Lodge. Enjoy a breathtaking view over the mountains, the bushveld and the surrounding valleys and let yourself be enchanted by the beautiful sunrises and sunsets in this untouched nature. Here you can enjoy a delicious dinner in the middle of the African bush.

HOW YOU LIVE: Overnight stay with half board at Ndhula Luxury Tented Lodge in Kruger Park

Ndhula Luxury Tented Lodge is located in a small private nature reserve near White River. Various antelope species, zebras, giraffes and more are at home here, so you can make your first animal observations from your private veranda.

The luxurious tented suites offer an en-suite bathroom/WC, air conditioning and a private viewing platform. The lodge has a lounge, a pool and a boma (traditional campfire dining area).

DAY 3: KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

Get up early today because you are visiting the world-famous Kruger National Park, the largest game reserve in South Africa.
With an area of around 20,000 square kilometers, the park stretches from the Crocodile River in the south to the Limpopo, the border river to Zimbabwe, in the north. The park is home to 147 mammal species including the "Big Five" (rhino, elephant, buffalo, lion and leopard), as well as around 507 bird species, 114 reptile species, 49 fish species and 34 amphibian species.

In an open 4×4 vehicle, equipped with canvas roofs to protect you from the sun, you will explore the southern and most animal-rich part of the park together with an experienced ranger. You will make exciting animal observations at river courses and waterholes. Have your camera ready - it's worth it!

At lunchtime, fortify yourself with a picnic (not included) at one of the designated rest areas before setting off on safari again. In the late afternoon, you will arrive back at Ndhula Luxury Tented Lodge, where you will have dinner together and talk about the exciting day.

DAY 4: KINGDOM OF ESWATINI (approx. 400km)
After a leisurely breakfast, you continue your journey. It is not far to the small kingdom of Swaziland, which is now called Eswatini. Via Piggs Peak with great views over the unique mountain world of eSwatini, you reach the Mantenga Nature Reserve at the foot of Nyonyane Mountain.

Once here, you will first enjoy a delicious lunch before visiting the traditional village, where you will learn about the history, culture and traditions of the Swazis.

During a guided tour, you will learn interesting facts about the construction and use of the traditional round huts and what role the healer played in the community. You will meet the villagers and see how they weave Lutindzi grass and make jewelry with traditional beadwork.

You will then attend a lively and colorful dance performance before continuing your journey to your next overnight stop.

HOW YOU LIVE: Overnight stay with half board at the Foresters Arms in Eswatini

The typically African and romantic Foresters Arms with a lot of flair and heart is surrounded by a beautiful garden with cozy places to linger.

The 34 rooms are equipped with bath/WC, TV, heating and telephone. The hotel has a restaurant, terrace, pool, sauna, fruit and vegetable garden and its own spring.

DAY 5: KWAZULU NATAL (approx. 380km)

Good morning Eswatini! After a delicious breakfast, visit a local craft market. Here, some of the finest works of art are carved right before your eyes. There is also jewelry and other works of art made from soapstone to admire and, of course, to buy. Make sure you get a souvenir to take home.

At Golela, you re-enter South Africa and continue your journey to the vacation resort of St. Lucia at the iSimangaliso Wetlands Park. The small town lies at the mouth of the Lake St. Lucia Lagoon on a narrow spit of land, bordered by the St. Lucia Estuary to the west and the Indian Ocean to the east.

Here you will find endless and lonely beaches, but beware: the hippos also live here and it is not uncommon for visitors to see them on a walk. The rest of the day is at your leisure.

HOW YOU LIVE: Overnight stay with breakfast at the Lodge Afrique in St. Lucia

Welcome to the Lodge Afrique, right in the center of St. Lucia. The town center, the beach, restaurants and stores are all within walking distance.

The African-style lodge consists of eight detached chalets, all of which have a bathroom/WC, air conditioning, a fan, a minibar, a tea/coffee maker, a TV, a safe and a veranda with an outdoor shower.

The lodge has a pool with sun deck, a small subtropical garden and a bar. Free WLAN is available.

DAY 6: ROLLING HILLS AND WILD ANIMALS

At dawn, you visit the oldest and perhaps most beautiful game park in South Africa, Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park, where the diverse vegetation provides a habitat for many mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians. The "Big Five" are also represented in the park, as are cheetahs, wild dogs, giraffes and nyalas.

Hluhluwe and Imfolozi were established as separate reserves in 1895 when the population of these animals was endangered by excessive hunting. In the early 1960s, the white rhino was threatened with extinction and Imfolozi was home to the world's last known population. In "Operation Rhino", which was carried out by the KwaZulu Nature Conservation Service, specimens were captured and sent to reserves and zoos around the world, and the global population has since recovered.

Here you will go on a game drive in an open off-road vehicle (English-speaking, can take place with other participants from outside the group). In the middle of the bush, you will be served a typical lunch by a courageous ranger. Enjoy your meal, but be careful: keep a close eye on your surroundings!

Return to St. Lucia in the afternoon and enjoy your free time by the pool or on the endless sandy beaches.

After a delicious breakfast, you board a boat with an open upper deck and set off on a tour of the iSimangaliso Wetlands Park (English-speaking, can take place with other participants from outside the group).

More than 1500 crocodiles and 800 hippos are at home here and guarantee unique photo opportunities. Keep an eye out for crocodiles and hippos as you drive through the meandering wetlands, along with possible sightings of eagles, vultures, Cape broadbills and dozens of other bird species.

Goodbye wildlife and continue your journey south to the metropolis of Durban.
Together with your tour guide, you fly to Port Elizabeth (flight price included) and check into your accommodation in the evening, just 150 meters from the beach.

HOW YOU LIVE: Bed and breakfast at Admiralty Beach House in Port Elizabeth

Admiralty Beach House is just a stone's throw from the beach. The Summerstrand shopping center and numerous restaurants are also within easy walking distance.

The 10 large rooms all have a bath/shower, separate entrance, balcony/veranda (some with sea view) and tea/coffee making facilities.

The guest house offers a cozy lounge and a lush garden with a terrace and a pool.

DAY 8: TSITSIKAMMA NATIONAL PARK (approx. 280km)

Welcome to the Garden Route! After a relaxed breakfast, the journey continues towards Tsitsikamma National Park.
The vegetation here is very lush and diverse. The dense forest with its old and tall trees is one of the last primeval forests in South Africa.

You make a short stop at the mouth of the Storms River and have the opportunity (if open) to walk across the famous Suspension Bridge. Hold on tight - it's going to be wobbly!
Optionally, you can also take a boat trip on the Storms River (English-speaking, can take place with non-group participants).

Keep your eyes peeled, as dolphins and seasonal whales can often be seen off the coast. Then marvel at the Big Tree, an ancient yellowwood tree that is more than 40 meters high. Neck stiffness guaranteed!

In the early evening you will be warmly welcomed by your hosts Albert and JH at Parkes Manor Guest House and enjoy a delicious three-course dinner.

DAY 10: STRAUSSENFARM & CANGO CAVES (approx. 180km)

You leave the coast via the scenic Outeniqua Pass with plenty of time for spectacular photo stops and reach the arid hinterland. Generations of ostriches ran through the enchanting Little Karoo before Oudtshoorn became the center of their breeding.

Once you have arrived in the ostrich capital, you will visit the unique stalactite cave landscape of the Cango Caves and marvel at the extensive stalactite formations of impressive size (English-speaking, can take place with other participants from outside the group).

Afterwards, you will visit an ostrich farm and learn about these large flightless birds and the history of their breeding (English-speaking, can take place with other participants from outside the group). Your destination is a typical guest house in the Klein Karoo near Oudtshoorn, where a delicious dinner awaits you.

HOW YOU LIVE: Overnight stay with half board at Thorntree Country Lodge

The historic Thorntree Country Lodge in typical Klein Karoo style is located on a 17th century estate in the Schoemannshoek Valley between the ostrich capital of Oudtshoorn and the Cango Caves.

The 19 rooms are equipped with a bathroom/WC, air conditioning, tea/coffee making facilities and a safe. The guest house also offers a pool, a lounge and a garden.

DAY 11: WALE IN THE WALKER BAY (approx. 370 km)

Today we continue along the famous and scenically unique Route 62, the former connecting route between Port Elizabeth and Cape Town, which exudes a certain Wild West atmosphere - hence the similarity in name to the legendary Route 66.

You reach the whale capital of Hermanus in the afternoon. Keep your ears open on the promenade for the sound of the "Whale Crier's" horn, as the whale crier alerts visitors and locals to the presence of whales in the waters off Hermanus and announces the best observation spots along the cliff path.

However, his job goes far beyond blowing a horn. The "Whale Crier" is an example of the town of Hermanus' commitment to the protection and conservation of these majestic sea creatures.

In the evening, try out one of the many restaurants in Hermanus (optional and for a fee). There is something for every taste here.

HOW TO STAY: Bed and breakfast at Auberge Burgundy in Hermanus

Auberge Burgundy is a charming Provençal-style boutique hotel & spa centrally located on the Hermanus seafront overlooking the picturesque old harbor and spectacular Walker Bay, famous for its natural beauty and whale watching.

Surrounded by restaurants, markets, boutiques, galleries and picturesque shopping centers, the Auberge Burgundy is the ideal starting point for activities.

The guest house is equipped with a breakfast restaurant, pool and pool deck, spa area and a romantic courtyard.

The 17 rooms and suites all have a bathroom/WC, TV, mini bar, tea and coffee facilities, safe, hairdryer and balcony or terrace.

DAY 12: WALES & THE TABLE MOUNTAIN (approx. 50km)

This morning the time has finally come. You set off on a whale watching tour by boat (English-speaking, can take place with other participants from outside the group) in Walker Bay.

By the way, did you know that humpback whales are known for their acrobatic skills? They often jump out of the water, spin in the air and slap the surface with their flippers. The significance of this behavior is still a mystery to scientists.

You reach the "Mother City" of Cape Town via the scenic R44 coastal road. Here you climb the mighty and famous Table Mountain. You don't have to do this on foot, but use the cable car to reach the top in no time at all and enjoy the magnificent view. Thanks to the "skip-the-line" ticket, you can walk past the long queue in a relaxed manner.

Your destination for the next few nights is the Seapoint district of Cape Town.

HOW TO STAY: Overnight stay with breakfast at The Winchester Boutique Hotel in Cape Town

The Winchester is located directly on the promenade in the Sea Point district. Built in the 1920s in original Cape Dutch architecture, the hotel shines with its "Shoreditch" restaurant, personal service, spectacular location and stylish elegance.

The rooms are equipped with bath/shower, WC, TV, minibar, tea and coffee making facilities, air conditioning, hairdryer, safe. The loft rooms overlook the inner courtyard and Table Mountain.

DAY 13: THE CAPE, PANORAMIC ROADS AND PENGUINS

You set off on a day trip to the Cape Peninsula. First stop in Muizenberg and marvel at the colorful little houses that can be found on every postcard. Along False Bay via Kalk Bay you reach Simon's Town, where you visit the famous penguin colony.

Continue to the Cape of Good Hope National Park with the Cape of Good Hope. A visit to the lighthouse, which began operating on May 1, 1860, is a must! If you don't fancy the steep climb, you can take the "Flying Dutchman" (cable car) to the top.

Via Chapman's Peak Drive, one of the most beautiful coastal roads in the world, you continue to Hout Bay with its small fishing harbor. You return to Cape Town in the late afternoon, where you say goodbye to your tour guide.
