About Mauritius Travel
Mauritius is an island nation in the southwest of the Indian Ocean about 870 kilometers east of Madagascar. The island enjoys an isolated island location without shared borders with another state and is almost completely surrounded by coral reefs. White sandy beaches characterize the coastline.
Mauritius is the perfect place to combine a round trip in southern Africa with a subsequent beach holiday. However, anyone who assumes that Mauritius has nothing more to offer than luxurious resorts and beautiful beaches will soon be proven wrong. The green pearl in the Indian Ocean is criss-crossed by impressive mountain ranges that lead to a central high plateau. This plateau impresses with natural craters, artificial reservoirs and unique national parks.
The majority of the inhabitants have Indian roots, but colonial powers from Europe and Arabia have left their mark. As a result, the island offers an incredible wealth of cultural and culinary specialties in a very small area in addition to its natural wealth. Water sports enthusiasts, divers, golfers and hikers all get their money's worth here, as do beach lovers and sun worshippers. In addition to the classic beach holiday, round trips by rental car or privately guided tours are also possible, because despite the small size of the island, each region of Mauritius has its very own character.
The seven-colored earth in Chamarel is a worldwide unique geological phenomenon in which seven different earths were mixed together through volcanic activity. Pamplemousses is home to the oldest botanical garden in the southern hemisphere. The Black River Gorges National Park covers an area of almost 7,000 hectares and is home to a variety of endemic flora and fauna. Grand Bassin, with its 33 meter high statue of the main god Shiva, is one of the most important and largest Hindu pilgrimage sites outside India. Casela Park is home to around 1,500 birds of over 150 different species as well as other land animals such as the impressive giant tortoises.
A trip to the subtropical island is generally suitable all year round. High season is between October and April and of course during all vacation periods. Temperatures vary between 24 degrees in July and 30 degrees in January. Every few years the island is hit by a cyclone, the main time for this is from January to March. A tropical downpour can occur at any time, but even heavy showers don't usually last long and it stays warm.
