Bushmanland, Caprivi & Vic Falls

This safari is dedicated to the most pristine and water-rich region of Namibia. In a small group, you will discover Bushmanland and the Caprivi Strip in north-eastern Namibia as far as Chobe National Park and the Victoria Falls - a region characterized by traditional villages and unique wildlife.

Our journey begins in the capital city of Windhoek and takes you through Hereroland to the Kalahari Bushmen in Bushmanland. This is also where Khaudum National Park is located – Namibia's wildest and least developed national park promises unique safari experiences. After a detour to Botswana and a boat trip on the Okavango River, we reach Namibia's Caprivi Strip. Here, traditional village communities still play an important role today, and at the same time, the Kwandos riverbank region in particular is a paradise for wildlife viewing. We also visit the magnificent Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Finally, we return via the famous Etosha National Park before ending the trip with easy hikes in the impressive Waterberg.

The tours are led by a competent, German-speaking guide and are conducted with a maximum of 10 tour participants. This is an active tour with a number of fantastic hikes. You don't need to be particularly fit, but you do need to be in good physical condition.

Custom-built off-road vehicles are used for the tour, which offer a high level of comfort on Namibia's unpaved roads and also make it possible to discover the country off the beaten track. The vehicle has large sliding windows for each row of seats and a practical lifting roof for a clear view on safaris.
For the lunch break, we set up our safari chairs in a nice shady spot in the middle of the great outdoors and a beautifully laid table in the African bush. We carry supplies for a rustic outdoor lunch in an electrically operated cool box, which also has enough space to cool drinks. A water tank on the vehicle supplies us with water where there is normally no tap.

The accommodation on the lodge safaris is simple, beautiful and varied - from lovingly run guest farms to lodges in spectacular locations. You will spend the night in comfortable rooms or permanent tents with private bathroom/WC.

DAY 1: WELCOME TO NAMIBIA
All tour participants arrive in Windhoek by midday. If time permits, we will visit the small, beautiful Daan Viljoen National Park. Large herds of zebra, wildebeest and blesbok as well as giraffe and ostriches await us there. In the afternoon we get to know the capital better and in the evening we stop off at a traditional Namibian steakhouse. Afterwards we fall asleep in the nice guesthouse.

DAY 2: HARNAS WILDLIFE FOUNDATION & BUSHMAN VILLAGE (APPROX. 310KM)
We leave Windhoek heading east to Gobabis and then continue north to Harnas. This conservation area is known far beyond the borders of Namibia for its wildlife conservation projects. In the afternoon we visit a traditional Bushman village where we are shown how Bushmen make their jewelry from ostrich eggshells, how they make bows and arrows and how they set up their traps. Tonight we spend the night at Harnas Guest Farm.

DAY 3: HERERO TRIBAL AREA (APPROX. 300KM)
We continue through the Herero tribal area and, after crossing the veterinary fence, we reach Bushmanland. We make a stop at Tsumkwe, the largest village in Bushmanland, where we find a simple lodge where we stay for one night. On the 2026 tours we spend the night in a lodge in Khaudum National Park, in 2027 we spend this night in a lodge near Tsumkwe. With a bit of luck, the elephants will come directly to the adjacent waterhole.

DAY 4: KHAUDUM NATIONAL PARK
We spend today in Kaudom National Park. This park in Bushmanland is an absolutely wild area and deep Kalahari sand reduces the average speed to a few kilometers per hour. Wildebeest, zebras, giraffes, hartebeests, sable antelopes, elephants, leopards and sometimes even lions roam freely in the vast grass and bush landscapes. Intact packs of hyena dogs (wild dogs) can also be found here. Especially in the second half of the year, the Kaudom fully lives up to its reputation as an "elephant park". We round off this eventful day in our lodge within the park.

DAY 5: BOTSWANA (APPROX. 390KM)
After leaving Tsumkwe heading east, we soon reach the border with Botswana. It is a small, little-used border crossing, where crossing the border is usually very smooth. We drive along a gravel road past scattered settlements of Bushmen and later Twanas. At Nokaneng, we rejoin a good paved road that runs parallel to the Okavango River to the north. Outside Shakawe, we stop for two nights at a great lodge located directly on the banks of the Okavango River.

DAY 6: OKAVANGO RIVER
After breakfast, we set off on a three-hour boat trip on the Okavango. The birdlife on the banks of the river is overwhelmingly diverse, and hippos, crocodiles and elephants are close enough to touch from the boat. We drift past settlements and villages and get an impression of the way of life of the Okavango people. The rest of the day is at leisure. Depending on the availability of boats, the boat tour can also take place in the afternoon, in which case you can enjoy a wonderful sundowner cruise.

DAY 7: CAPRIVI & MAHANGO NATIONAL PARK (APPROX. 300KM)
After a short drive, we cross the border into Namibia again and enter the small but beautiful Mahango National Park. We choose the route along the river, as this offers the best chance of wildlife viewing. Impala, kudu, buffalo, sable antelope, vervet monkeys, and much more can be found near the riverbank. Various water birds find an ideal habitat in the swamps. Crossing the Okavango River at Bagani, we enter Caprivi National Park. Apart from a few scattered indigenous settlements, there is hardly any infrastructure in Caprivi. After crossing the Kwando River, we leave the paved road and take a winding path into the bush to reach an idyllic lodge on the banks of the Kwando. We will stay here for two nights.

DAY 8: KWANDO GAME DRIVES
The view of the Kwando floodplains is overwhelming. At dawn, a veil of mist lies over the floodplains, the grunting of the hippos echoes across to us and vervet monkeys perform gymnastics in the treetops. There is hardly a better breakfast in the middle of such a paradisiacal panorama. Along the Kwando River, we dig our way through the deep riverbank sand of Babwata National Park. We see hippos, sable antelopes, kudu, impala, lechwe, elephants... simply magnificent!

DAY 9: EAST CAPRIVI & KASANE (APPROX. 250KM)
We continue through East Caprivi to Katima, the largest town in the region, and on across the border to Botswana, where we reach Kasane in the afternoon. We stay here for two nights in a lodge, and there may be time for a Chobe boat tour (optional) today.

DAY 10: DAY TRIP VIKTORIA FALLS (CA 160KM)
The day trip to the Victoria Falls is organized from the lodge to speed up border crossings. As border crossing costs are constantly changing, visa fees and entrance fees are not included. We recommend having lunch at the venerable Victoria Falls Hotel (optional). In the afternoon we return to Kasane.

DAY 11: POPA FALLS (CA 350km)
We drive back to Namibia, first to Katima and reach the Popa Falls near Divundu in the afternoon. These are more rapids than waterfalls, but they are still an impressive phenomenon. We then continue to a beautiful tented camp with "Out of Africa flair" on the banks of the Okavango.

DAY 12: CAPRIVI & KAVANGO VILLAGES (CA 360KM)
The only road through the Caprivi, the "Golden Highway", takes you back to the Okavango River. After crossing the Okavango Bridge, the route leads past countless settlements and villages. Old and young, goats, cows, chickens, dogs - everything gathers on this road. We immerse ourselves in traditional village life and visit one of the friendly Kavango villages.

DAY 13: WOOD CARVINGS (APPROX. 390 KM)
After breakfast, we drive towards Grootfontein. Before the "red border line," the former buffer zone during the border war, you can see the typical African settlement character. You will have time to purchase wood carvings as souvenirs at the roadside, and in the afternoon we will reach a rustic guest farm near Etosha National Park. We will stay here for two nights.

DAY 14: ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK
Breakfast will be taken as early as possible today, as we want to make the most of the day in Etosha National Park. This national park, covering an area of approximately 22,000 km², is known for its large herds of wild animals. The morning and afternoon hours are best for wildlife viewing, as a large number of animals can be expected at the waterholes. We will spend the midday hours at the pool of Camp Namutoni, but there is also the opportunity to observe animals at the adjacent waterhole. Before sunset, we will leave Etosha Park and return to our guest lodge.

DAY 15: CROCODILE FARM & WATERBERG (APPROX. 350KM)
After a short stop at the Otjiwarongo crocodile farm, we soon reach the Waterberg. The striking table mountain is approx. 1900 meters high and extremely impressive. Here you can enjoy a wonderful walk on signposted hiking trails or a game drive. We spend the night at a great lodge right at the foot of the mountain.

DAY 16: OKAHANDJA TIMBER MARKET & GOODBYE (APPROX. 330KM)
After our last breakfast together, we slowly make our way back. In Okahandja we visit a wood market where local craftsmen offer wood carvings and then arrive back in Windhoek around 2 pm.
