About Namibia Travel
Namibia, also known as “Africa’s Rugged Paradise” or “Land of Contrasts,” is a diverse travel destination on the African continent. Unlike other countries in Southern Africa, the distances between individual towns and attractions are quite great. The many unpaved highways also mean that you can’t explore the country at high speed; instead, you’ll need to bring plenty of patience and time with you.
The country is home to only around two million people. This leaves plenty of space away from civilization. Namibia consists of a mixture of untouched wilderness, people of different cultures and the many legacies of the former German colonial era, which you will encounter above all in the cities of Windhoek, Swakopmund and Lüderitz.
However, Namibia is mainly famous for its impressive landscapes and unique nature. The red dunes of Sossusvlei, the depths of the Fish River Canyon, the mighty Epupa Waterfalls, the wildlife-rich Etosha Pan, the wild coasts, the shimmering red-gold Kalahari Desert, the endless savannahs and mighty rainforests: all these highlights make Namibia a truly exceptional travel destination.
Planning a Trip to Namibia
Due to the infrastructural conditions (only a few roads are paved), a Namibia vacation should be planned professionally, especially depending on the planned travel time (dry season, rainy season). A sensible balance between "seeing a lot" and "relaxing" as well as a sensible choice of route are important. After all, nobody wants to spend their entire vacation in a vehicle.
Distances must be estimated realistically. In some parts of the country, 100 km can be covered much more quickly than in others. For some stops, a minimum stay of several nights is recommended, for others one night is sufficient. Due to the limited number of accommodations, the right choice and early booking is crucial here.
