Drifters' tours are full of adventure. The overland safari operator has been one of the largest and most renowned in southern Africa for over 40 years. The Namibia tour starts as a classic camping safari in tents for two, with some overnight stays in permanent accommodation. However, it is possible to exchange additional nights in tents for basic accommodation for an additional charge (subject to availability). Single travelers may have to share a room with a fellow traveler of the same sex; a single room (optional extra) is also available on request. On the camping safari, you will spend the night in tents for two, camping beds are provided. This means that nobody has to sleep on mats on the floor. However, you must bring a sleeping bag and towels for this tour. Transportation is in a non-air-conditioned safari truck. The tour language is English and the group composition (max. 16 participants) is international. This tour has an adventurous character, a certain open-minded attitude is necessary to participate.
Flights are not included in this tour. We are happy to arrange suitable flights or airport transfers as well as pre- or post-night stays on request. As the Drifters tours usually start early in the morning and only arrive back in the late afternoon, you should book at least one overnight stay at the start location and one overnight stay at the destination in order not to miss the start of the tour or the return flight.

Namibia: the land of the unrelenting sun, where it seems as if the ground begs the sky for rain, the vast landscape stretches uninterrupted for hundreds of kilometers without a sign of human influence. Here you will find living deserts where you can marvel at the unfolding of ever-changing natural colors and the animals and plants that somehow survive in this seemingly very harsh environment.
This tour includes all the well-known sights, but also takes you to off-the-beaten-track destinations that are rarely visited by the average visitor.
To take part in this tour, flexibility, a willingness to get involved, a feeling for the forces of nature and a desire for unlimited adventure are essential. With this attitude, you can enjoy the tour to the full.
DAY 1: WINDHOEK
Our Namibian adventure begins in the capital Windhoek at 14:00.
After a welcome and a short briefing, we set off to explore Windhoek and see the sights of the city before ending the day with warm hospitality at the infamous Joe's Beerhouse Restaurant (dinner at own expense). Tonight we spend the night in the comfort of our hotel and prepare for the adventure ahead.
Overnight stay: Hotel Safari
DAY 2: NAMIB DESERT RESERVE
Leaving the city lights behind, we drive into the heart of the Namib Desert and immerse ourselves in its vast plains, red dunes, towering mountains and ever-changing landscapes. In the late afternoon, we reach a remote camp nestled on a mountain ledge in part of the vast Namib Rand Nature Reserve. The reserve is home to a variety of flora and fauna adapted to desert conditions, as well as many animal species.
Overnight: Greenfire Desert Camp, meals included: breakfast, lunch, dinner
DAY 3: NAMIB DESERT RESERVE
We wake up to a view of the desert that stretches further than the eye can see. All the animals here live in a completely natural environment and can move freely throughout the reserve. Our expert guide explains the unique flora and fauna of the desert and we start the day with a walk. We look for animals, footprints and the signs of behavior and survival strategies that allow animals to survive in these harsh conditions.
During the heat of the day, guests have time to relax in camp or explore the surrounding area on foot if they are interested. In the late afternoon we set off on a desert drive up and over the magnificent dunes. In the evening, we enjoy a traditional sundowner as the sun sets over the African landscape. After dark, we drive slowly back to our camp in the hope of encountering some of the nocturnal animals that have adapted to life in the desert.
Overnight: Greenfire Desert Camp, meals included: breakfast, lunch, dinner
DAY 4: SOSSUSVLEI DUNES
We set off early for the Sesriem Canyon and the impressive red Sossusvlei dunes, reputedly the highest dunes in the world. We head into the heart of the dunes and spend time scrambling up these spectacular sand mountains before taking a 4×4 transfer into Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, a clay pan of dark dead camel thorn trees, exploring these truly unique places on foot before the 4×4 transfer takes us back to our vehicle. Before leaving the park, we make a stop at Sesriem Canyon.
Overnight: Sossus on Foot Campsite, meals included: breakfast, lunch, dinner
DAY 5-6: SWAKOPMUND
We cross the Kuiseb Canyon and the Namib-Naukluft National Park, drive to the harbor town of Walvis Bay and on to Swakopmund, where the German influence from the late 1800s is still clearly noticeable. Here we spend two nights in comfortable accommodation.
We explore this tourist town and its surroundings extensively and eat in local restaurants on both evenings (at our own expense). Swakopmund is a must for any visitor and offers a variety of adventure activities such as quad biking, sandboarding and skydiving (own expense). For those who just want to relax, there are various restaurants and stores where you can experience the local culture up close.
Overnight stay: 2x Amanpuri Lodge, meals included: 2x breakfast, 1x lunch
DAY 7: SKELETON COAST - SPITZKOPPE
Today we head north to the Skeleton Coast, a barren and desolate stretch of coastline on the Atlantic Ocean littered with shipwrecks. We visit Cape Cross, a spectacular breeding ground and home to more than 100,000 fur seals.
We then venture back inland and travel through the vast desert to the famous Spitzkoppe, which is a group of bare granite rocks in the Namib Desert. The granite rocks are more than 120 million years old and the highest peak reaches around 1,728 meters above sea level. The peaks stand out in the otherwise flat surroundings and we reach our camp in the early afternoon.
Overnight: Spitzkoppe (game camping), meals included: breakfast, lunch, dinner
DAY 8: BRANDBERG
After a leisurely start to the day, we climb the granite rocks of the Spitzkoppe before traveling through the barren desert to the famous Brandberg, the highest mountain in Namibia. On the way, we stop to talk to the local Himba tribe before stopping at the foot of the Brandberg. From there we take a guided hike to the "White Lady" rock carving. We arrive at our camp in the late afternoon. For those who are interested, there is an optional tour to see the rare desert elephants.
Overnight: Brandberg Camping, meals included: breakfast, lunch, dinner
DAY 9-10: ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK
Today we continue to Etosha National Park. Our journey takes us through the breathtaking Damaraland, home of the Damara tribe. On the way we stop for a lunch break before reaching our camp for the night.
We make our way further north and drive into Etosha National Park, the highlight of the tour. Here we become one with nature and explore the park over two days. During this time, we go on extended game drives (in the drifters truck), visit waterholes and let our senses run free to make the most of our time in the park. On one of the days we will shorten our game drive and spend a few hours at the famous Okaukejo waterhole. We wait patiently for the animals that come here to quench their thirst. We then leave the park again. If time permits, you will have the opportunity to take part in an optional sundowner drive (drinks included) in a private reserve.
Overnight: 2x camping outside the park, meals included: 2x breakfast, 2x lunch, 2x dinner
DAY 11: WINDHOEK
We start the day early and begin our journey back to civilization. The drive to Windhoek will take most of the day and the tour officially ends in the late afternoon upon arrival in the capital.
Meals included: Breakfast
