Namibia Family Safari

This tour takes into account the special requirements of a child-friendly safari. Moderate distances, activities for the whole family, and a varied program in central Namibia make the trip an exciting experience for children aged 7 and up, teenagers, and parents alike. We stay in cozy accommodations and also have our meals there. However, so that we don't have to completely forego the campfire experience, a typical Namibian barbecue evening is also organized at a suitable location – you'll be amazed at the delicious food your tour guide can prepare over the campfire!

On this safari, we will have excellent opportunities to observe African wildlife, but we will also get to know different desert, steppe, and mountain landscapes. We will visit national parks, tribal areas, and farming regions, as well as interesting towns and settlements.

The tours are led by a competent, German-speaking guide and carried out with a maximum of 10 participants. This is an active tour with fantastic hikes. You do not need to be particularly fit, but you should at least be in good physical condition. The tour is suitable for children aged 7 and above.

Custom-built off-road vehicles are used for the tour, which offer a high level of comfort on Namibia's unpaved roads and also make it possible to discover the country off the beaten track. The vehicle has large sliding windows for each row of seats and a practical lifting roof for a clear view on safaris.
For the lunch break, we set up our safari chairs in a nice shady spot in the middle of the great outdoors and a beautifully laid table in the African bush. We carry supplies for a rustic outdoor lunch in an electrically operated cool box, which also has enough space to cool drinks. A water tank on the vehicle supplies us with water where there is normally no tap.

The accommodation on the lodge safaris is simple, beautiful and varied - from lovingly run guest farms to lodges in spectacular locations. You will spend the night in comfortable rooms or permanent tents with private bathroom/WC.

DAY 1: WELCOME TO NAMIBIA (APPROX. 50KM)
All families will arrive in Windhoek by 11 a.m. and will be picked up at the airport. After a short city tour of Windhoek, we will reach our beautiful guest farm about 10 kilometers outside the city. Here we will settle in for the day and enjoy the pool and the African atmosphere.

DAY 2: THROUGH THE KHOMAS HIGHLANDS TO THE SPREETSHOOGTE PASS (APPROX. 220KM)
Today we set off towards the Namib Desert. The route leads through the Khomas Highlands to the Spreetshoogte Pass, one of the most beautiful but also steepest passes in Namibia. From here, you have a fantastic view of the vastness of the Namib, which can be enjoyed even more when hiking downhill on the pass road. Below the Spreetshoogte Pass, we will soon stop at a rustic farm. Here we can take a short hike to the nearby Gecko Dam and spend the night in rustic large house tents with ensuite bathrooms and proper interior furnishings. In the evening, we will have a typical African barbecue.

DAY 3: APPLE PIE & HIDDEN POOLS (APPROX. 130KM)
After a short drive, we reach Solitaire, a tiny desert village whose existence is justified on the one hand by a gas station and on the other by delicious apple pie that is always fresh from the oven. The impressive landscape of the Naukluft Mountains is a feast for the eyes of any nature lover. Wind and sun, heat and cold, drought and rain have created a fantastic rocky landscape here, home to kudus, mountain zebras, klipspringers, baboons, and leopards. Here we can take an approximately one-hour hike to the uniquely beautiful pools. Thanks to the permanent water supply here, the vegetation is lush and diverse. The hike can also be extended as you wish. From here, it is only a stone's throw to a lodge on the edge of Namib Naukluft Park, where a canyon hike is also possible if you are interested.

DAY 4: SOSSUSVLEI & SESRIEM CANYON
Today, we will rise before dawn, have breakfast, and set off for the Namib Desert. To reach the highest dunes in Sossusvlei, we will drive about 60 km through the dune landscape, with the last 10 km being an off-road route. We will climb one of the dunes, as the play of light and shadow between the sand mountains is unique, especially in the early morning hours. After returning from Sossusvlei, we will discover the nearby Sesriem Canyon on an approximately one-hour hike. When we have had enough of the desert experiences, we will drive back to our lodge and end the day at a leisurely pace.

DAY 5: KUISEB CANYON & MOON LANDSCAPE (APPROX. 320KM)
Today we leave the Naukluft Mountains and drive north along the Namib Desert to the Kuiseb Canyon. We continue across the Namib, which presents us with a wide variety of desert landscapes throughout the day, occasionally with sightings of springbok, oryx, mountain zebra, and ostriches. In the afternoon, we reach the "lunar landscape," where we also find some specimens of the unique and ancient Welwitschia mirabilis. In the late afternoon, we arrive in the colonial town of Swakopmund on the Atlantic Ocean, where we spend the night in a family-run guesthouse.

DAY 6: COLONIAL TOWN OF SWAKOPMUND
This day is yours to spend as you wish. If you'd like to be active, you could take a scenic flight over the Skeleton Coast, go on a horseback ride, or take a boat trip to see dolphins and seals. Children always enjoy quad biking or sandboarding on the nearby sand dunes. Arrangements and payment can be made on site, and your tour guide will be happy to assist you.

DAY 7: CAPE CROSS SEAL COLONY & DESERT ELEPHANTS (APPROX. 280KM)
We drive north along the coast to the seal colony at Cape Cross, then continue on to Damaraland. In the Brandberg region, many minerals, quartz and gemstones are mined and sold in the tiny town of Uis and at roadside stalls. From here, it is only a short drive to our lodge near the Brandberg. In the afternoon, there is enough time for a short hike along the Ugab riverbed, where, with a little luck, you may already spot the rare desert elephants.

DAY 8: TWYFELFONTEIN & DAMARA TRADITION (APPROX. 250KM)
We continue north and soon find ourselves surrounded by red table mountains, which are so typical of Damaraland. Along our route, we pass Damara farms and get an impression of the life of the people in the tribal areas. In the morning, we reach Twyfelfontein, a place that has been declared a World Heritage Site because of its numerous prehistoric rock paintings and engravings. During an approx. 1-
hour hike, we will discover many of these early works of art. In a traditional Damara village, we will then be shown how hides are tanned and spearheads are made, which plants are edible, and how fire is kindled with fire sticks. The visit ends with singing and dancing. In the afternoon, we will reach the "Petrified Forest," where we will take a short hike to see the numerous petrified tree fragments. Towards evening, we will reach a simple lodge near Khorixas, where we will stay for the night.

DAY 9: CHEETAH PROJECT & ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK (APPROX. 140KM)
We reach our destination for the day at noon: a beautiful lodge in the immediate vicinity of Etosha National Park, where we will spend two nights in bungalows. In the afternoon, we visit a cheetah project and, if time permits, we pay our first visit to Etosha National Park.

DAY 10: SAFARI DRIVES IN ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK
We set off early today for Etosha National Park to fully enjoy the unique wildlife. The morning hours are ideal for wildlife viewing and photography. As it gets warmer during the morning, the wildlife seeks shade and we seek the pool at Okaukuejo or Halali camp. In the afternoon, we set off on another game drive, but will leave the national park in time for sunset to reach our lodge.

DAY 11: CROCODILE FARM & WATERBERG (APPROX. 290 KM)
After a short stop at the Otjiwarongo Crocodile Farm, we soon reach the Waterberg. The impressive Waterberg is a high plateau created by erosion, reaching a height of almost 1,900 m, with steep drops at the edges. We will spend the next two nights at a beautiful lodge on the edge of the national park.

DAY 12: WATERBERG NATIONAL PARK
This day is free for you to spend as you wish, with optional activities available on site. You can go hiking on your own in Waterberg, or you can take part in a three-hour guided plateau hike or a game drive (tracking) in the morning. In the morning, you could take a trip to visit the Hereros, led by a local guide. In the afternoon, game drives are offered with the opportunity to observe white rhinos, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, elands, and many more.

DAY 13: OKAHANDJA WOOD MARKET & GOODBYE (APPROX. 290KM)
After our last breakfast together, we slowly begin our journey back. In Okahandja, we visit a wood market where local artisans offer numerous carvings – a good opportunity to buy some beautiful souvenirs. We arrive in Windhoek around 2 p.m., and a return flight in the evening would be possible.
