MEET & GREET

On arrival at Windhoek airport or at the agreed station, you will receive your rental car. A member of staff from our partner in Namibia will meet you at your accommodation in Windhoek to discuss the tour with you and give you valuable and up-to-date travel tips. You will receive further information with your travel documents.

DAY 1 TO DAY 2:

WINDHOEK

Welcome to the capital. Windhoek is the capital as well as the economic and political center of Namibia. The city is situated in the Windhoek Basin, the approximate geographical center of the country, bordered by the Erosberg Mountains in the east, the Ausasberg Mountains in the south and the Khomas Highlands in the west and north.
The colonial past and the influence of the German language and culture can be felt in many areas. Worth seeing are the monumental Supreme Court building, the Namibian National Museum in the "Alte Feste", the Christuskirche, the "Tintenpalast" parliament building and much more.

Hotel Heinitzburg is just a five-minute drive from the city center, with magnificent views over the city and the Khomas Highlands. The view from the restaurant and its terrace over the lights of Windhoek is just as spectacular as the African sunsets. The rooms are spacious, elegant and individual, no two are alike. KALKRAND

In the south of the Tropic of Capricorn lies the Kalahari Desert, also known as the Kgalagadi. You will soon be able to see the reddish glow of the Kalahari Desert in the distance. Here, the green acacias and yellow grass stand in stark contrast to the blue sky and the red sand dunes of the Kalahari Desert, which stretch for hundreds of kilometers. The Kalahari shows its true beauty in the light of the setting sun, when it transforms the red sand into a shimmering fire and oryx antelopes or giraffes warm themselves in the last rays of the sun. The Kgalagdi is also a very special experience in the rainy season, when a green carpet emerges from the dried grass.

The Kalahari Red Dunes Lodge is situated near Kalkrand in a 4000-hectare private game park. Red Kalahari dunes and camel thorn tree savannah characterize the landscape. The main house can only be reached via a 120 m long wooden walkway. Relax on the sun terrace with pool and view of the waterhole. Here you also have the opportunity to take part in nature tours for a fee, hire mountain bikes, go hiking or try out the special jogging track (English-speaking and with other participants). You take part in an approximately 3-hour guided sundowner drive in the Kalahari Desert. The sundowner drive is the ideal way to get to know the Kalahari Desert. As you drive over the red dunes, you have the opportunity to see various animals such as springbok, giraffe or oryx antelope. The drive into the sunset with a panoramic view over the dunes of the Kalahari is an unforgettable experience.

DAY 3 TO DAY 5 (APPROX. 300 KM):

SESRIEM

The star dunes of the vlei, which reach a height of up to 300 meters, are among the highest sand mountains in the world. Especially in the early morning, the sun's rays create an indescribable play of colors on the sand of the dunes. The dead, almost 500-year-old trees in Dead Vlei, which is a sandy clay and salt pan adjacent to Sossusvlei that no longer receives any water, are bizarre. Dead Vlei is reached after a strenuous walk through the dunes. If you have a 4×4 vehicle, you can drive to the dunes yourself; with a "normal" car, you have to change to a shuttle vehicle at the end. Alternatively, the lodges offer guided drives into Sossusvlei. Another attraction in the park is the Sesriem Canyon, which is located at the entrance to the Sossusvlei area and can be explored on foot.

Soussusvlei Desert Lodge is about three quarters of an hour's drive from the entrance to Sossusvlei. The main area offers a glass-fronted restaurant with terrace, where you have a fantastic view of the desert. The suites, also made of glass and stone, offer plenty of privacy. Enjoy the magnificent view from your own pool and at night the starry sky through a window above the bed. A nearby waterhole attracts animals at sunset, making for an unforgettable sundowner. SWAKOPMUND

Your destination is Swakopmund, located north of the mouth of the Swakop River on the Atlantic Ocean. The town was once the gateway to German South West Africa and the most important port at the time. Today, Swakopmund is an important recreational and vacation center, rich in beautiful colonial architecture. Swakopmund can easily be discovered on foot, visit the Woermannhaus, the landing stage, the lighthouse, the old district court, the railroad station or the Swakopmund Museum.
There is also a lot to discover outside the town, such as desert tours or boat trips in Walvis Bay. Those who prefer more action can also go skydiving, quad biking or sandboarding.

The Desert Breeze Lodge is quietly situated on the edge of Swakopmund, the center of Swakopmund is only a few minutes' drive away. LIVING DESERT TOUR

The Living Desert Tour is a unique experience in four-wheel drive vehicles that shows you the impressive beauty of the Namib Desert and life in the desert. The coastal dune belt, which may seem barren and lifeless to some, is home to a fascinating variety of small animals that have adapted to the desert. They survive thanks to the fog that regularly drifts in from the cold Atlantic Ocean. During the tour, regular stops are made to look for tracks on the dunes (known as "reading the Bushman's newspaper") to see what animals have been at this spot the night before. Desert geckos, dancing spiders, scorpions, lizards, snakes, desert chameleons, legless lizards and a variety of beetles and insects are some of the creatures you may find on this tour.

The half-day tour starts at 8 am in Swakopmund (pick-up at the guesthouse) and ends there around 1 pm. The tour language is English and is conducted with other participants. (also available in German on request, subject to availability)

DAY 6: SWAKOPMUND

SANDWICH HARBOR

Today you take a day trip to Sandwich Harbour. Sandwich Harbour lies in the heart of the Namib-Naukluft Park. The gigantic dunes, which run directly into the Atlantic Ocean, form an indescribably beautiful landscape with breathtaking scenery. You start with a short stop at the lagoon near Walvis Bay, which is often overpopulated with flamingos and is home to over 200,000 birds. The drive then continues towards the Kuiseb Delta and the salt works directly to the meeting point of dunes and sea on the rugged Atlantic coast south of Walvis Bay. Whether you can drive directly to the lagoon with the off-road vehicles depends on the tide. If the tide is too high, the last few meters to the lagoon are covered by dune walking. Here there is plenty of time to enjoy the atmosphere, take photos, look for the well-camouflaged Little 5 of the desert or get a good sunburn if you forget to apply a generous amount of 50 sun cream.
On the way, usually on a particularly high dune with a good view, a snack is served. The world-famous oysters and the delicious champagne are particularly memorable.
The return journey leads through the typical landscapes of the Namib Desert close to the Atlantic with high dune belts overgrown with nara plants. With a bit of luck, some of Namibia's wild animals can be observed here. Oryx antelopes and springboks, jackals, seals, ostriches and brown hyenas can be found in the area. Smaller animals include the dancing white lady spider, the beautiful palmato gecko, the sidewinder and the golden mole rat.
The complete tour takes about 8 hours.

DAY 7 TO DAY 8 (APPROX. 250 KM):

USAKOS

Spitzkoppe is an inselberg 120 km east of Swakopmund that towers 700 meters above its surroundings. Due to its striking shape, it is also known as the "Matterhorn of Namibia" and is one of the most photographed mountains in the country. Spitzkoppe was formed by an intrusion that did not reach the earth's surface. Over the course of millions of years, the surrounding cap rock weathered away and only the hard granite of the intrusion remained. This is also the site of the millennia-old rock paintings, the most famous of which is the Bushman's Paradise. However, these paintings have been largely destroyed by vandalism.

Spitzkoppen Lodge is situated on the north side of Spitzkoppe, nestled among massive rocks. From the main building and the pool, you can enjoy a sweeping view all the way to Brandberg. This stylish and cozy lodge invites you to relax and unwind. Take some time to unwind here or explore the countryside on foot at your own pace. You also have the option to participate in various activities such as horseback riding, bike tours, or hikes for a fee (tours are conducted in English and take place with other participants; booking is only possible on-site). DAY 8 TO DAY 10 (APPROX. 325 KM):

TWYFELFONTEIN

Twyfelfontein is located in Damaraland, an often untouched and very hot (semi-)desert landscape. The ancient rock carvings depicted here were made by the Bushmen. The engravings are located on a series of smooth rock slabs and mostly depict hunting scenes and animals. They were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007. Also worth a visit nearby are the so-called Organ Pipes and the Burnt Mountain as well as the Living Museum of the Damara and the Petrified Forest, which is around 55 kilometers away. An animal highlight of Damaraland are the desert elephants, which roam an area between the dry rivers of the Ugab and the Huab. With a bit of luck, you may spot the animals during a guided game drive.

The suites are hidden behind large rocks, which serve as natural air conditioning for the wide open communal areas and the suites. From the camp and the suites, as well as from the bed, you have an exceptional view of the unique landscape. The privacy screen in the rooms can be opened completely to enjoy nature up close and sleep under the stars. (6 suites: Bathroom/WC (partly open), veranda. The white area, as it was also called by the Bushmen, is surrounded by savannahs, bush and shrub forests, and in the west mountains rise up from the otherwise flat park. The numerous waterholes, some of which are artificial, are home to wild animals, especially during the long dry season. During the rainy season, water collects in the pan and the flamingos settle here to breed. The national park is home to an enormous variety of large and small animals. It is home to four of the Big Five (lion, rhino, elephant and leopard), as well as over 100 other mammal species and over 400 bird species and numerous reptiles and amphibians.
You can explore the Etosha National Park on your own in a rental car or on a guided safari.

Tucked away at the southern tip of Etosha National Park, within the 70,000-hectare private Ongava Game Reserve, lies Anderssons Camp. The camp is built on wooden decks made of stone and canvas. (18 rooms: bathroom/toilet, veranda. Camp: restaurant, swimming pool, illuminated waterhole, safe at the front desk).

Onguma The Fort is situated in the Onguma Game Reserve, just a few kilometers from the Lindquist Gate of Etosha National Park. The Fort is unfenced and combines African elements with Moroccan and Indian influences. The suites are set far apart from each other and therefore offer a great deal of privacy. From here and from the main area you can experience one of the most beautiful sunsets in Namibia, as you enjoy a unique view over the Etosha salt pan. Take part in a game drive in the Etosha or in the reserve or reserve the hide, where you can observe the animals at eye level under protection (all activities for a fee; English-speaking, conducted with additional persons). DAY 13 TO DAY 14 (APPROX. 355 KM):

OTJIWARONGO

Otjiwa Safari Lodge is Namibia's oldest game farm and covers an area of over 12,000 hectares of savannah in the northern part of the country.
The lodge has a mix of modern design and upmarket safari chic, which extends from the suites in the main lodge to the independent chalets and the campsite. The warm African flair of the interior is also reflected in the famous Namibian hospitality with which guests are pampered.

Game drives in open off-road vehicles take guests out of luxury and comfort into the wild landscape in the mornings and evenings. The special rhino tracking tours in particular are a safari highlight for visitors. Birdwatchers in particular will delight in the feathered biodiversity, including the vulture school. All activities are optional and take place with additional people. The tour language is English. Meals are served in the lodge dining room or directly at the open boma fireplace.

The following services are included in the price: unlimited free mileage, accident/theft insurance without excess (incl. tires, roof, windscreen, underbody damage), liability insurance up to 10 million euros, one spare wheel, one additional driver, local taxes and fees.

To rent a vehicle, you will need a valid credit card issued to the main driver, an international driver's license and a passport. Each driver must have held a driver's license for at least two years. The deposit will be paid by credit card and will not be charged if the vehicle is returned with a full tank of fuel.

The local car rental company reserves the right to provide models of equal or higher value. The rental car mentioned is only an example of the confirmed vehicle class. The rates to be paid on the spot in NAD are determined by the local car rental company and are subject to change without notice.

APPROXIMATE ADDITIONAL COSTS THAT ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE

Long-haul flights to Southern Africa in Economy Class cost from EUR 900, while prices can be well over EUR 1000 in the high season. Flights in Premium Economy Class are available from 1500 EUR, in Business Class flights cost from 2500 EUR (per person for outward and return flights). All prices are average values depending on the airline and season. The actual prices at a given time depend on the number of bookings and may vary. Early booking is recommended, especially in the high season.

A light lunch costs around EUR 5 (small salad, soup) to EUR 8 (pizza, pasta, burger) per person, a dinner around EUR 10 (pizza, pasta, burger, large salad) to EUR 12 (steak, fish) to EUR 22 (three-course meal) per person. Coffee, tea, beer or soft drinks cost around EUR 1.60 per cup or glass. Prices may vary upwards or downwards depending on the region or type of restaurant.

A liter of fuel (petrol or diesel) costs around EUR 1. Allow around EUR 259 for fuel for this trip.

Entrance fees to national parks cost between EUR 5 and EUR 25 per person per day, depending on the size and popularity of the park. Entrance fees to museums or other attractions cost between EUR 3 and EUR 20 per person. Children under the age of 12 usually pay half price.
