Day 1: WINDHOEK AND THE KALAHARI DESERT
Upon your arrival at Windhoek Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by an English-speaking driver. He will take you directly to the Craft Center in the city center, where you can take in your first impressions of Namibia. If you land before 10 a.m., a light breakfast will be waiting for you there to ensure a pleasant start to your day. Arrivals are possible until 1:00 p.m. at the latest; after that, the entire group will meet at the Craft Center. Together with your German-speaking tour guide and the other participants, the drive toward the Kalahari begins at 2:00 p.m.—and with it, the Namibia adventure! The drive takes you south into the vast, reddish-golden landscape of the Kalahari Desert, a fascinating ecosystem that spans several countries in southern Africa. Despite its name, the Kalahari is not a classic desert; rather, you’ll find a semi-arid savanna landscape characterized by red sand dunes, grassy plains, and scattered camelthorn trees. In the late afternoon, you’ll arrive at your lodge in the heart of the Kalahari. Here, you can first settle in at your own pace, enjoy the silence, and let the magnificent expanse sink in.
Overnight stay: Camelthorn Kalahari Lodge or similar.
Meals included: Half board
Day 2: KALAHARI AND SESRIEM
Early in the morning, you’ll set out on an unforgettable “sunrise drive” through the red dunes of the Kalahari. As the first rays of sunlight sweep across the endless sand dunes and bathe the landscape in warm light, the desert magically comes to life. You might even spot the first animals of the day, taking advantage of the cool morning hours to go about their business. After breakfast, you’ll continue toward the Namib Desert—more specifically, to Sesriem, the gateway to the famous Sossusvlei. On the way, you’ll stop at the charming desert hamlet of Solitaire—a quirky place with cult status that seems to have been left behind by time. Here you’ll have the opportunity to try the legendary apple pie, a true insider’s tip among travelers to Namibia. Your accommodations in Sesriem are picturesquely situated on the edge of the dune belt. After checking in, you can enjoy the sweeping view of the desert landscape from the terrace before a delicious dinner awaits you under the clear starry sky.
Overnight stay: Desert Camp or similar
Meals included: Half board
Day 3: SOSSUSVLEI & SESRIEM CANYON
You’ll set out at sunrise and drive to the Namib-Naukluft National Park to experience the glowing sand dunes in the best light. The unique color palette of dawn, ranging from soft pink to deep orange, lends the landscape an almost surreal beauty—a paradise for photographers. A walk through the famous Dead Vlei takes you past centuries-old, dead acacia trees that look like works of art from another world. If you’d like, you can climb the dune crest—at 350 meters, “Big Daddy” is one of the tallest sand dunes in the world. Once at the top, an unforgettable view of the endless sea of sand awaits you. You’ll enjoy breakfast as a picnic right at the foot of the dunes—with freshly brewed coffee and the silent expanse of the desert as your backdrop. Afterward, you’ll visit Sesriem Canyon, a gorge up to 30 meters deep that the Tsauchab River has carved into the sedimentary rock over millions of years. The walk through the narrow gorge reveals fascinating rock formations and exciting insights into the region’s geological history.
Overnight: Desert Camp or similar
Meals included: Half board
Day 4: NAMIB AND SWAKOPMUND
Today you’ll continue your journey: The route takes you through the impressive desert landscape of the Namib, past geological highlights such as the Kuiseb Canyon and the winding Ghaub Pass. The vastness, the colors, and the rugged cliffs of this region make the drive itself an experience. In the afternoon, you’ll arrive in Swakopmund, the charming coastal town with its multicultural flair and unmistakable German colonial heritage. During an introductory city tour, you’ll discover notable buildings such as the Rhenish Mission Church, the magnificent Hohenzollern House, and the former district court, which still proudly reflects the architecture of bygone eras. A stroll along the historic pier, which now houses a restaurant, rounds out the day. Afterward, you can explore on your own—the remnants of the past are here at every turn, quietly telling their stories. Just follow your nose; Swakopmund will
enchant you in its own unique way.
Overnight: Legacy Swakopmund Hotel or similar.
Meals included: Breakfast
Day 5: Swakopmund
Today you can plan your day entirely according to your personal preferences and enjoy optional activities in and around Swakopmund. How about, for example, a boat trip in Walvis Bay? While you’ll hopefully get to observe seals and dolphins up close, you’ll be served fresh local oysters and other culinary delights on board—a highlight for foodies and nature lovers alike. Those who prefer solid ground beneath their feet can join an exciting Living Desert Tour. Here, you’ll discover the desert’s “Little Five”—including the color-changing chameleon and the light-sensitive desert gecko, which must even be shaded while being observed, as direct sunlight can be dangerous for it. Your guide will captivate you with his knowledge, humor, and obvious love of nature, making this tour an unforgettable experience. A very special tip for adventure seekers: a scenic flight over the impressive dune landscape of the Namib. From the air, the sheer endless expanse of this unique desert landscape reveals itself in all its splendor—a sight that will give you goosebumps and is sure to stay with you for a long time. Over 2,500 animal depictions and symbols carved into the rock offer insight into the lives of early hunter-gatherers. Afterward, you’ll admire the fascinating basalt columns known as the “Organ Pipes”—a geological feature formed by volcanic activity. Your journey will then continue toward Etosha National Park, where you’ll arrive at your lodge on the edge of the park. End the day in a relaxed atmosphere around the cozy campfire and look forward to the safari adventures ahead.

With a little luck, you might also catch a glimpse of lions or even a leopard, which like to linger near the waterholes.
