Experience Cape Town and the highlights of the Garden Route on a leisurely tour without stress and hectic. You will discover the wine regions and the Little Karoo semi-desert. You won't miss the Big Five in a malaria-free game reserve at Addo Elephant Park. Get to know the most beautiful beaches on the Garden Route and watch whales on the coast from June to November. You will receive your rental car on arrival at Cape Town Airport or at the agreed station. Welcome to the Mother City. Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. To get an overview, your first excursion should be to Table Mountain. A drive along Chapmans Peak Drive, an impressive coastal road that leads past the penguin colony at Boulders Beach to the Cape of Good Hope, is also a must. Experience the Capetonian way of life: you start in the morning on a culinary excursion into the city of Cape Town. The itinerary may vary depending on the day of the week. During the week, you will discover the small and fine temples of indulgence where usually only the locals shop - far away from the usual tourist traps. Enjoy coffee, ice cream, bread, wine or chocolate from small local producers, for example. At the weekend, the famous food markets take place in various locations and are always worth a visit. At lunchtime, head to the oldest wine region in the Cape - Constantia. You stop at a local winery for a delicious lunch (optional). Of course, two wine tastings are not to be missed, where you will get to know the fine wines of the region. You will return to your accommodation in the afternoon.

This is a privately guided tour conducted in English and lasts about eight hours. You will be picked up at your accommodation and dropped off there again. DAY 4 TO DAY 6 (APPROX. 50 KM):

FRANSCHHOEK

In contrast to lively Stellenbosch, Franschhoek is a more sedate place. The name Franschhoek means something like "French corner" or "French corner". The town was founded in 1688, when around 200 Huguenots who had emigrated from France settled in the area. The Huguenot Museum and the Huguenot Monument are reminders of Franschhoek's French origins. More than 45 wine estates along the Franschhoek Wine Route produce top-quality wines. Some of them produce in the centuries-old French tradition, while others use completely modern methods. Along the main street you will find many boutiques, cafés and bistros. The town is also famous for its top restaurants, which are on a par with European Michelin-starred cuisine, but are considerably more attractive in terms of price.

In the triangle between Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl in the middle of a beautiful landscape lies the luxurious Babylonstoren wine estate, which is world-famous for its magnificent gardens. The hotel suites and cottages are spread across the extensive grounds in different parts of the building. Various restaurants are available for lunch and dinner. Hotel guests can use the pool and, for an additional charge, the wellness area. The individual suites and cottages all have a bathroom/WC, air conditioning, a fireplace, a minibar, a TV, a safe and a tea/coffee maker. You will be picked up at your accommodation in the morning by your private English-speaking driver and wine expert. You set off on a day trip to the classic wine regions of Franschhoek. The "French Corner", as the place name translates, has remained true to its French tradition to this day. Grapes such as Pinot Noir, Merlot, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Vignonier dominate the vineyards.

You will visit three wine estates and take part in wine tastings to get a good overview of the famous Franschhoek wines. There will also be a nice lunch stop at one of the wine estates. If time permits, you can also make a stop at the small coffee roastery Terbodore. You will be dropped off at your accommodation again in the afternoon.

The cost of wine tasting is already included in the price. The costs for lunch, other drinks and a visit to the Terbodore coffee roastery (if desired) are not included in the price. Please note that not all wineries may be open on weekdays or at certain times of the year.

DAY 6 TO DAY 8 (APPROX. 160 KM):

Grootbos Private Nature Reserve

The tour continues to the "whale capital" of South Africa, Hermanus. Here you have the best opportunities to watch whales from the coast between June and November. Of course, you can also take a boat trip out to sea to get even closer to the largest mammals on earth. But Hermanus also has a lot to offer outside the whale season in the South African summer. There are excellent beaches, great restaurants and the Fernkloof Nature Reserve, a unique nature reserve with typical fynbos vegetation and many hiking trails. Even winegrowing has now left its insider status here in the Coastal Region. Over 30 wineries have joined together to form various wine routes.

The Grootbos Private Nature Reserve, nestled between the Indian Ocean and the Kleinriversberg mountains, is an eco-paradise with impressive flora and (marine) fauna and is about 30 minutes' drive from Hermanus. Whales (seasonal), dolphins, sharks, seals and penguins are not rare guests at Walker Bay. The 16 exclusive freestanding suites at Forest Lodge have a bathroom/WC, a bedroom with a separate lounge area, a fireplace, a minibar, a tea/coffee maker, a TV with DVD player, a safe and a veranda with sea view and outdoor shower. The lodge offers a restaurant, a bar, an infinity pool, a spacious outdoor deck with sea views, a spa area (for a fee) and free WiFi.

OUDTSHOORN

Oudtshoorn is the jewel of the Little Karoo semi-desert and the largest town along Route 62. The C.P. Nel Museum in the town center explains the history of the town and its rise to become the "ostrich capital" of South Africa. A stop at one of the local ostrich farms is a must, where you can learn a lot about the largest and flightless birds in the world and admire the historic ostrich palaces. The Cango Caves, a huge stalactite cave landscape that is one of the most impressive in the world, are definitely worth a visit. Adventure-seekers with the right vehicle can take a drive over the famous Swartberg Pass, but guided tours are also available. An insider tip is the Rust en Vrede waterfall, located east of the Cango Caves. Clear nights with little light pollution make for an impressive starry sky, and professional stargazers offer appropriate evening observation activities. On several farms, the cute meerkats can be spotted early in the morning on guided tours. Some interesting wineries, such as the Karusa Estate, offer wine tastings.

The Rosenhof Country House is located on the northern outskirts of Oudtshoorn and is a Victorian-style villa that has been lovingly restored for discerning guests. The center, with its many shops and restaurants, is just a few minutes' drive away, and the Cango Caves are about a 25-minute drive away. All twelve luxurious suites have a bathroom/WC, air conditioning, minibar, safe, tea/coffee making facilities, TV, free Wi-Fi, and a veranda. The Executive Suites are located slightly apart and also offer a lounge area and a veranda with views of the Swartberg Mountains and a private plunge pool. Join us on an almost eight-hour day tour to the highlights of Oudtshoorn and the surrounding Klein Karoo semi-desert. The day starts with a 90-minute ostrich farm tour, where you will learn all about the largest flightless bird in the world. Next, you will head to the famous Cango Caves, an impressive stalactite cave landscape, where you will take part in an easy 60-minute heritage tour.

We continue up the impressive Swartberg Pass, a scenic highlight of the Klein Karoo. Once at the top, a light lunch awaits you with breathtaking views. The next stop is the historic town of Prince Albert, where you go on a short sightseeing tour. The tour ends with visits to the Swartberg Canyon, the small village of De Rust and the waterfall at Meiringspoort. You return to Oudtshoorn in the late afternoon.

DAY 10 TO DAY 12 (APPROX. 120 KM):

KNYSNA

You continue to the small town of Knysna with its famous lagoon, which is only connected to the Indian Ocean by a small strait. A boat trip on the lagoon is a real highlight. Knysna is the center of the Garden Route and offers many opportunities for daytime activities. The dense forests in the hinterland or the beautiful coastal sections are ideal for hiking, the nearby beaches for swimming and relaxing. From June to November, you may be lucky enough to spot whales. The town itself and the small waterfront with its cafés, stores and boutiques also invite you to stroll and linger.

Kanonkop House is an owner-operated boutique guest house, which is one of the 25 Most Luxury Small Hotels in Africa and offers a fantastic view of the Knysna Lagoon. The guest house features a pool, a sun deck, an outdoor terrace, a guest lounge, and a bar. You will be picked up at your accommodation in Knysna at 9 am. You will first visit the famous Garden Of Eden, an easily accessible section of rainforest where you will learn a lot about the indigenous flora, from oversized Yellowwood trees to small ferns. The drive then takes you to the western part of the Tsitsikamma National Park in the beautiful Natures Valley, where you take a walk along the beach in a paradisiacal setting. There is also a beautiful viewpoint, although this involves a few meters of elevation gain.

Continue along the unique coastline of the Keurbooms River Lagoon to the picturesque vacation resort of Plettenberg Bay. After a short stroll through the town or along the beach, head to a cozy restaurant overlooking the ocean for lunch (lunch optional). The drive then takes you back to Knysna, where you first drive along the impressive lagoon to the Eastern Head. From here you have a unique view over the lagoon, the town and the open sea. The last stop is the lively waterfront of Knysna, where you have the opportunity to take a leisurely boat trip on the lagoon (boat trip optional and subject to availability). You will be dropped off back at your accommodation at around 5 pm.

The 25,000-hectare Shamwari Private Game Reserve offers an exclusive safari experience in the malaria-free bushveld of the Eastern Cape. Unlike the state-run Addo Elephant Park, only overnight guests have access to the private game reserves. They are therefore much more suitable for short stays and unique wildlife viewing. The small lodges also offer a very personal atmosphere. Specially trained rangers ensure a first-class nature experience. Shamwari is home to the Big Five: lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and rhinos, as well as many other African wildlife species.

Bayethe Tented Lodge, built in the modern Out-Of-Africa style, is situated in the north-east of the Shamwari Game Reserve, far away from all other lodges. From a hill you have a unique view of the Eastern Cape bush landscape. The twelve freestanding semi-fixed tent suites have a bathroom/WC, air conditioning, a minibar, a tea/coffee maker, a safe, a lounge area and a viewing deck with a private plunge pool and outdoor shower. The following services are included in the price: unlimited free mileage, accident/theft insurance without excess (incl. damage to tires, roof, glass, underbody, oil pan, clutch), liability insurance up to 10 million euros, towing costs in the event of an accident, an additional driver, contract fee, local taxes and fees.

You will need a valid credit card issued to the main driver, an international driver's license and a passport to rent the vehicle. APPROXIMATE ADDITIONAL COSTS THAT ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE

Long-haul flights to Southern Africa in Economy Class cost from EUR 900, while prices can be well over EUR 1000 in the high season. Flights in Premium Economy Class are available from 1500 EUR, in Business Class flights cost from 2500 EUR (per person for outward and return flights). All prices are average values depending on the airline and season. The actual prices at a given time depend on the number of bookings and may vary. Early booking is recommended, especially in the high season.
