ABOUT THIS TRIP

Discover South Africa's most important highlights on this comfortable tour – and without any risk of malaria. Experience Africa's wild animal world in a private Big Five game reserve in the beautiful Waterberg Mountains. The Garden Route captivates with dense forests, branching lagoons, and endless beaches. Breathtaking landscapes await you along Route 62 in the Little Karoo semi-desert. You can even watch whales seasonally near Hermanus. Enjoy fine wines and good food in the wine regions. Cape Town and the Cape of Good Hope are among the most beautiful cities in the world.

You don't want to drive yourself, but a small group tour doesn't have the right start date for you and a privately guided tour is too expensive? Then our English-speaking chauffeur-driven tours are just the right alternative. Your private chauffeur will take you from place to place, where you will then take part in guided day activities and excursions. However, you do not have the all-round support of a continuous tour guide. All chauffeur-driven tours can start daily and can be adapted to your wishes in advance. The more people take part in your own chauffeur-driven tour, the lower the price per person.

DAY 1 TO DAY 4:

WATERBERG

In the malaria-free Waterberg region lies the 22000ha Entabeni Safari Conservancy, which is home to the Big Five as well as many other wild animals. The region impresses with its unique landscapes and varied nature. Mountains, gorges, steppes and lakes offer a reflection of many original African areas in a small space. The Waterberg region is still considered an insider tip in South Africa. The special thing about Entabeni is the division into a high plateau (Upper Escarpment) and a low plateau (Lower Escarpment), which cannot be found in any other game reserve in South Africa.

The Honeyguide Ranger Camp is a comfortable, rustic tented camp located in the Lower Escarpment of the reserve. The 15 freestanding tent suites feature a bathroom/toilet, a fan, a mosquito net, a safe, and a private veranda with seating. The Standard Tents are approximately 23 square meters in size. The Family Tents are approximately 43 square meters in size and feature two separate bedrooms that share a bathroom/toilet. The lodge offers a restaurant, a lounge, a pool, a gift shop, a boma (traditional dining area around a campfire), and free Wi-Fi in the main building.

Each night, you will take part in two guided game drives in an open-top 4x4 vehicle; these are conducted in English and shared with other guests. These activities take place in the afternoon before dinner and in the morning before breakfast. Conservation fees are not included in the price and must be paid on site.

For an additional fee, you can also stay in a lodge with permanent chalets.

DAY 4: JOHANNESBURG

ONEWAY FLIGHT TO GEORGE

A domestic or regional flight is the fastest and most convenient way to cover longer distances in southern Africa. Thanks to various competitors, there is a dense network of scheduled flights to a total of more than 25 airports. All local airlines fly with modern aircraft that meet the highest safety standards and are of course regularly maintained, just like in Europe.

The flight is operated in Economy Class. Depending on the airline, only one piece of checked baggage weighing 20kg to 23kg and one piece of hand baggage are permitted per person. You will receive details with your travel documents. Additional baggage, seat reservations and other services can be booked at very reasonable prices. We recommend arriving at international airports such as Windhoek, Victoria Falls, Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town at least two hours before departure; at smaller regional airports, 90 minutes is sufficient.

DAY 4: GEORGE

DAY 4 TO DAY 7:

KNYSNA

Knysna, with its striking lagoon, is the center of the Garden Route and offers a wide range of daytime activities. The dense forests in the hinterland or the beautiful coastal sections are ideal for hiking, the nearby beaches for swimming and relaxing. Boat trips are offered on the lagoon. From June to November, you may be lucky enough to spot whales. The town itself and the small waterfront with its cafés, stores and boutiques also invite you to stroll and linger.

You will stay in the historic and lovingly restored Parkes Manor Guest House, a stately home in a 12000 square meter park-like garden overlooking the lagoon. The waterfront or the center of Knysna can be reached in about 15 minutes on foot or a few minutes by car. The nine individually furnished suites all have a shower/WC with separate bathtub, a TV, tea/coffee making facilities, air conditioning, a minibar and a safe. The Cozy Suite is located on the first floor and has a private courtyard without a view. The Standard Suites are located on the first floor at the rear of the building and have a balcony. The Lagoon View Suites are also located on the first floor and have a balcony with a view over the garden and the lagoon. This suite is also used as a honeymoon suite or family suite with two extra single beds. DAY 5: KNYSNA

KNYSNA PRIVATE HALF DAY TOUR

You will be picked up at your accommodation in Knysna and set off on a private half-day tour to the highlights of the area. The first stop is Brenton-On-Sea, from where you have a unique view of the lagoon and the expansive beach of Buffalo Bay. The tour continues around the Knysna lagoon to the Eastern Head, the eastern mountain peak that towers above the narrow connection between the lagoon and the open sea. You can also enjoy fantastic views from here. You then drive to the center of Knysna with its tranquil waterfront. Optionally, you can take part in a boat trip, visit some of the historic buildings and museums or take part in tastings of local specialties such as wine, beer, gin or oysters. After about four hours, you will be dropped off at your accommodation.

The tour language is English, no other people take part. Food, drinks, entrance fees and other costs are not included in the tour price and will be paid by you on site, if desired. This tour can be started at 9:00 am and 2:00 pm.

DAY 5: KNYSNA

ROBBERG COASTAL PRIVATE HALF DAY HIKE

OPTIONALLY BOOKABLE FROM 80 € PER PERSON

You will be picked up at your accommodation in Knysna. The drive heads east towards Plettenberg Bay to the Robberg Nature Reserve. The small nature reserve forms a peninsula in front of the elongated bay of Plettenberg Bay and enjoys UNESCO World Heritage status. There are always great views of the sea and, with a bit of luck, you may spot seals, dolphins or even whales (June to November).

You set off on the approximately 5.5 km long Witsand circular hiking trail and have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful surroundings time and again. The Robberg Nature Reserve is one of the most beautiful coastal reserves on the entire Garden Route. After around four hours, you will be dropped off at your accommodation in Knysna.

The tour language is English, no other people take part. Drinking water and entrance fees are included in the tour price. This is a moderate hike, you should be sure-footed. Sturdy shoes, clothing suitable for the weather and sun protection are essential. The hike can be started at 9:00 am or 2:00 pm.

This service can be booked for an additional charge.

DAY 6: KNYSNA

TSITSIKAMMA PRIVATE DAY TOUR

You will be picked up at your accommodation in Knysna at 9 am. The drive heads east along beautiful stretches of coastline and through dense forests. Your first stop is the famous Big Tree, a Yellowwood tree over 800 years old and almost 40 meters high, a worthy representative of the original tree population in the Tsitsikamma National Park.

Continue to the mouth of the Storms River on the rugged rocky coast in the east of the national park. Here you will take a short and relatively easy hike to the famous Suspension Bridge, an almost 80m long suspension bridge over the Storms River, one of the most popular photo opportunities in the region. You also have the opportunity to take part in a short boat trip upstream (optional).

After a refreshing lunch (optional), the journey heads back west. You stop at the impressive Bloukrans Bridge, which offers the highest commercial bungee jump in the world. With a bit of luck, you can watch daring adventurers leap into the depths.

The drive then takes you to the western part of the Tsitsikamma National Park in the beautiful Natures Valley, which is characterized by dense forests and untouched stretches of beach. You take a walk in a paradisiacal setting, where the Groot River flows into the Indian Ocean. Your driver will drop you off at your accommodation at around 5 pm.

The tour language is English, no other people take part. The entrance fees (conservation fees) are already included in the tour price. Lunch and the boat trip are not included in the tour price.

DAY 7: KNYSNA

KNYSNA TO OUDTSHOORN PRIVATE DAY TOUR

You will be picked up at your accommodation in Knysna in the morning. Your journey will first take you along the beautiful coastline of Sedgefield and Wilderness with their stunning lake landscapes and dense forests in the hinterland. You will then leave the green coast behind and drive over the imposing Outeniqua Mountains into the dry semi-desert of the Little Karoo.

A stop at a local ostrich farm is now on the program. Oudtshoorn is the ostrich capital of South Africa. Here you will learn a lot about the rearing of the largest flightless birds in the world.

Continue to the Karusa Wine Estate, where you can taste up to five of the locally produced wines. For those less interested in wine, the estate also has its own brewery with interesting craft beers (all tastings optional). Afterwards, you have the opportunity to have lunch at the winery (lunch optional). The winery is closed on Sundays and public holidays, when an alternative program takes place.

Your next stop is the Cango Caves, a unique stalactite cave landscape located just outside Oudtshoorn in the idyllic Schoemanshoek Valley. Here you will embark on an easy guided tour through huge caves and narrow passages (no climbing or crawling). You will be dropped off at your accommodation in Oudtshoorn at around 16:00.

The tour language is English, no other people take part. The entrance fees for the Cango Caves and the ostrich farm are included in the tour price. The wine or beer tasting and lunch are not included in the tour price.

DAY 7 TO DAY 8:

OUDTSHOORN

Oudtshoorn is the jewel of the Little Karoo semi-desert and the largest town along Route 62. The C.P. Nel Museum in the town center explains the history of the town and its rise to become the "ostrich capital" of South Africa. A stop at one of the local ostrich farms is a must, where you can learn a lot about the largest and flightless birds in the world and admire the historic ostrich palaces. The Cango Caves, a huge stalactite cave landscape that is one of the most impressive in the world, are definitely worth a visit. Adventure-seekers with the right vehicle can take a drive over the famous Swartberg Pass, but guided tours are also available. An insider tip is the Rust en Vrede waterfall, located east of the Cango Caves. Clear nights with little light pollution make for an impressive starry sky, and professional stargazers offer appropriate evening observation activities. On several farms, the cute meerkats can be spotted early in the morning on guided tours. Some interesting wineries, such as the Karusa Estate, offer wine tastings.

You will stay at Hlangana Lodge, a renovated Victorian property in a quiet side street near the city center. Various ostrich farms and the Cango Caves are about a 30-minute drive away. The 23 modern rooms have a bathroom/WC, air conditioning, TV, minibar, tea/coffee making facilities, safe, and terrace. The Superior Rooms are more spacious than the Standard Rooms. The Deluxe Rooms also have an outdoor shower. The Honeymoon Suite also has a lounge area and a private courtyard. The accommodation offers a lounge, a bar, a garden with a pool, a fitness room, and free Wi-Fi.

DAY 8 TO DAY 9:

HERMANUS

The tour continues to the "whale capital" of South Africa, Hermanus. Here you have the best opportunities to watch whales from the coast between June and November. Of course, you can also take a boat trip out to sea to get even closer to the largest mammals on earth. But Hermanus also has a lot to offer outside the whale season in the South African summer. There are excellent beaches, great restaurants and the Fernkloof Nature Reserve, a unique nature reserve with typical fynbos vegetation and many hiking trails. Even winegrowing has now left its insider status here in the Coastal Region. Over 30 wineries have joined together to form various wine routes.

The family-run Penguino Guesthouse is located in the popular coastal town of Hermanus, within walking distance of the famous Cliff Path and the town center, which is home to many restaurants, cafés, and shops. The eight rooms are spacious and stylishly furnished, featuring a bathroom with a shower and toilet, a TV, a safe, a tea/coffee maker, and a minibar. The Emperor Penguin Room features a private balcony on the first floor. The Galapagos Penguin Room features a terrace with access to the pool. The guesthouse also offers a terrace, a pool, and free Wi-Fi.

DAY 9: HERMANUS

BOAT-BASED WHALE WATCHING INCL. PICK-UP

OPTIONALLY BOOKABLE FROM 135 € PER PERSON

In the South African winter months from June to November, you have the best chance of spotting Southern Right Whales (right whales) and Humpback Whales (humpbacks) in Walker Bay near Hermanus. You can get within 50 meters of these gigantic marine mammals by boat. This is an experience that no one should miss, especially if the whales are not directly on the coast. If you are lucky, you may also spot dolphins, penguins, sharks and seals during the trip.

The trip takes about two hours and starts at New Harbour in Hermanus. You will be picked up at your accommodation in good time by transfer and then dropped off there again. The tour is in English and is conducted with additional people. A small refreshment is included in the price. We recommend booking this activity in advance, especially in the popular months of October and November, as places on the boat are limited and may be fully booked on site. The scenically impressive mountain ranges offer unique hiking opportunities. The second oldest city in the country has a beautiful historic city center with many listed buildings in the Cape Dutch architectural style. Cafés, restaurants and boutiques invite you to stroll and linger. Thanks to the local university, Stellenbosch is a very lively and young city, despite its historical background.

You will stay in the Villa Grande Guest House, an elegant and lovingly renovated villa from the 1920s, which is centrally but quietly situated in a cul-de-sac in Stellenbosch. Restaurants, cafes, boutiques, the botanical gardens and the historic town center are all within walking distance. Countless wine estates can be reached in less than 15 minutes by car.
