ABOUT THIS TRIP
Discover the highlights of the Garden Route from Cape Town to Addo Elephant Park. Cape Town, the Mother City, is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The Winelands are home to first-class wineries and restaurants. Depending on the season, you can go whale watching in Hermanus. The Little Karoo semi-desert with the "ostrich capital" of Oudtshoorn offers great scenic highlights. Around Knysna there are beautiful coastal stretches and in Tsitsikamma National Park there are pristine forests. Last but not least, embark on a malaria-free safari in a private Big Five game reserve at Addo Elephant Park.
You don't want to drive yourself, but a small group tour doesn't have the right start date for you and a privately guided tour is too expensive? Then our English-speaking chauffeur-driven tours are just the right alternative. Your private chauffeur will take you from place to place, where you will then take part in privately guided day activities (with the exception of game viewing activities with other people). However, you do not have the all-round support of a continuous tour guide. All chauffeur-driven tours can start daily and can be adapted to your wishes at any point beforehand. The more people take part in your own chauffeur-driven tour, the lower the price per person.

DAY 5 TO DAY 6:
HERMANUS

The tour continues to the "whale capital" of South Africa, Hermanus. Here you have the best opportunities to watch whales from the coast between June and November. Of course, you can also take a boat trip out to sea to get even closer to the largest mammals on earth. But Hermanus also has a lot to offer outside the whale season in the South African summer. There are excellent beaches, great restaurants and the Fernkloof Nature Reserve, a unique nature reserve with typical fynbos vegetation and many hiking trails. Even winegrowing has now left its insider status here in the Coastal Region. Over 30 wineries have joined together to form various wine routes.
The luxurious Boutique Ocean Views guest house is located directly on the cliffs and offers uninterrupted sea views. The famous Cliff Path takes you within walking distance of the small center of Hermanus with its many restaurants and shopping opportunities. From June to November, you can enjoy excellent whale watching opportunities right from your accommodation. The five rooms all offer a bathroom/WC, air conditioning, a minibar, a TV, a tea/coffee station, a safe, and a balcony with direct sea views. The guest house has an outdoor terrace, a bar, a lounge, a pool, and free Wi-Fi.

If you are lucky, you may also spot dolphins, penguins, sharks and seals during the trip.
The trip takes about two hours and starts at New Harbour in Hermanus. You will be picked up at your accommodation in good time by transfer and then dropped off there again. The tour is in English and is conducted with additional people. A small refreshment is included in the price. We recommend booking this activity in advance, especially in the popular months of October and November, as places on the boat are limited and may be fully booked on site. If the trip has to be canceled at short notice due to weather conditions, we will refund the price after your trip.

Oudtshoorn is the jewel of the Little Karoo semi-desert and the largest town along Route 62. The C.P. Nel Museum in the town center explains the history of the town and its rise to become the "ostrich capital" of South Africa. A stop at one of the local ostrich farms is a must, where you can learn a lot about the largest and flightless birds in the world and admire the historic ostrich palaces. The Cango Caves, a huge stalactite cave landscape that is one of the most impressive in the world, are definitely worth a visit. Adventure-seekers with the right vehicle can take a drive over the famous Swartberg Pass, but guided tours are also available. An insider tip is the Rust en Vrede waterfall, located east of the Cango Caves. Clear nights with little light pollution make for an impressive starry sky, and professional stargazers offer appropriate evening observation activities. On several farms, the cute meerkats can be spotted early in the morning on guided tours. Some interesting wineries, such as the Karusa Estate, offer wine tastings.
The Rosenhof Country House is located on the northern outskirts of Oudtshoorn and is a Victorian-style villa that has been lovingly restored for discerning guests. The center, with its many shops and restaurants, is just a few minutes' drive away, and the Cango Caves are about a 25-minute drive away. All twelve luxurious suites have a bathroom/WC, air conditioning, minibar, safe, tea/coffee making facilities, TV, free Wi-Fi, and a veranda. The Executive Suites are located slightly apart and also offer a lounge area and a veranda with views of the Swartberg Mountains and a private plunge pool. DAY 7: OUDTSHOORN
OUDTSHOORN TO KNYSNA PRIVATE DAY TOUR
.jpg)
You will be picked up from your accommodation in Oudtshoorn in the morning. The first stop on the itinerary is a local ostrich farm. Oudtshoorn is the ostrich capital of South Africa. Here you will learn a lot about the breeding of the world's largest flightless birds.
Continue to the Karusa Wine Estate, where you can taste up to five of the locally produced wines. For those less interested in wine, the estate also has its own brewery with interesting craft beers (all tastings optional). Afterwards, you have the opportunity to have lunch at the winery (lunch optional). The winery is closed on Sundays and public holidays, when an alternative program takes place.
Your next stop is the Cango Caves, a unique stalactite cave landscape located just outside Oudtshoorn in the idyllic Schoemanshoek Valley. Here you embark on a fairly easy guided tour through huge caves and narrow passages (no climbing or crawling).
You leave the dry semi-desert and continue along the green coast to Wilderness, where you stop briefly to take photos on the beautiful beach. The journey continues along the beautiful coastline of Wilderness and Sedgefield with their stunning lake landscapes and dense forests in the hinterland. In the late afternoon, you will be dropped off at your accommodation in Knysna.
The tour language is English, no other people take part. The entrance fees for the Cango Caves and the ostrich farm are included in the tour price. The wine or beer tasting and lunch are not included in the tour price.
DAY 7 TO DAY 9:
KNYSNA

You continue to the small town of Knysna with its famous lagoon, which is only connected to the Indian Ocean by a small strait. A boat trip on the lagoon is a real highlight. Knysna is the center of the Garden Route and offers many opportunities for daytime activities. The dense forests in the hinterland or the beautiful coastal sections are ideal for hiking, the nearby beaches for swimming and relaxing. From June to November, you may be lucky enough to spot whales. The town itself and the small waterfront with its cafés, stores and boutiques also invite you to stroll and linger.
The Turbine Boutique Hotel & Spa is located on Thesen Island, a small island connected to the Knysna mainland by a bridge. Thesen Island has many small stores, cottages and bistros. The Turbine Boutique Hotel was once a power station in the bay of Knysna and supplied the whole area with electricity in the old days until 1970. It was only in 2011 that the operation was completely discontinued, the old turbines and pipes were preserved and today look like works of art in this lovingly designed boutique hotel. There is a bar, a restaurant, a lounge, a pool and a spa area for a fee. The 24 rooms are furnished in a modern industrial-chic style and have a bathroom/WC, safe, TV, telephone, air conditioning, minibar, coffee/tea maker and free WiFi. The Standard Rooms are around 30 square meters in size. The Luxury Rooms are about 40sqm in size. The suites are up to 60 square meters in size and have a balcony.

Continue to the impressive Bloukrans Bridge, which offers the highest commercial bungee jump in the world. With a bit of luck, you can watch daring adventurers jump into the depths. Here you also have the opportunity to fortify yourself with an optional lunch. The last stop is the mouth of the Storms River on the rugged rocky coast in the east of the national park. Here you take a short and relatively easy hike to the famous Suspension Bridge, an almost 80m long suspension bridge over the Storms River, one of the most popular photo opportunities in the region. The malaria-free reserve covers almost 12,000 hectares and is home to the Big Five - elephants, lions, buffalo, rhinos and leopards - as well as many other African wild animals. In contrast to the state national parks, only overnight guests have access to the private reserves. These are therefore much better suited to a short stay for unique animal sightings.
