ABOUT THIS TRIP

Discover the highlights of the Garden Route from Cape Town to Addo Elephant Park. Cape Town, the “Mother City,” is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The Winelands are home to world-class wineries and restaurants. Depending on the season, you can spot whales off the coast of Hermanus. The semi-arid Little Karoo, home to Oudtshoorn—the “ostrich capital”—offers stunning scenic highlights. The area around Knysna features beautiful stretches of coastline, and Tsitsikamma National Park boasts pristine forests. Last but not least, embark on a malaria-free safari at Addo Elephant Park.

You don't want to drive yourself, but a small group tour doesn't have the right start date for you and a privately guided tour is too expensive? Then our English-speaking chauffeur-driven tours are just the right alternative. Your private chauffeur will take you from place to place, where you will then take part in privately guided day activities (with the exception of game viewing activities with other people). However, you do not have the all-round support of a continuous tour guide. All chauffeur-driven tours can start daily and can be adapted to your wishes at any point beforehand. The more people take part in your own chauffeur-driven tour, the lower the price per person.

DAY 1 TO DAY 4:

CAPE TOWN

Welcome to the Mother City. Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. To get an overview, your first excursion should be to Table Mountain. A drive along Chapmans Peak Drive, an impressive coastal road that leads past the penguin colony at Boulders Beach to the Cape of Good Hope, is also a must. On the way, you can visit the oldest wine estates on the Cape in Constantia. The V&A Waterfront is inviting with its countless stores and restaurants. The ferries to the former prison island of Robben Island also depart from here. On weekdays, you can explore the city center, the colourful Bo-Kaap district and the Company's Garden on foot without hesitation.

The Cape Town Hollow Boutique Hotel is centrally located in Cape Town, right next to the Planetarium and the Company’s Garden. Within walking distance, you’ll find countless shops, cafés, and restaurants along Kloof Street, Bree Street, and Long Street. The V&A Waterfront, the Table Mountain Cable Car station, and Camps Bay Beach are all about a 10- to 15-minute drive away. The 56 rooms feature a bathroom with toilet, air conditioning, a TV, tea and coffee making facilities, a safe, and free Wi-Fi. DAY 2: CAPE TOWN

HALF DAY CITY TOUR

Cape Town, the “Mother City” and South Africa’s oldest city, is rightly considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The city’s highlights are waiting for you to explore them. You’ll visit the famous Bo-Kaap neighborhood with its colorful houses. The Company Gardens are Cape Town’s green lung. The South African National Museum is also located here. Along the picturesque beaches of Camps Bay and Clifton, the tour continues to Signal Hill, where you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view of the city and the Atlantic Ocean. The highlight of this tour is, of course, Cape Town’s landmark: Table Mountain. Since the cable car may be closed due to weather conditions, the ticket is not included in the price but must be purchased by you on site.

The tour, which lasts about three to four hours, is conducted in English and takes place in a small group with other participants. For the morning tour, you’ll be picked up at your lodging between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.; for the afternoon tour, between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. After the tour, you’ll be dropped off back at your accommodation. You’ll be notified of the exact pickup time by your accommodation one day in advance. Admission to the South African Museum is included in the price. Beverages, meals, and the cable car ticket for Table Mountain are optional. The order of the individual stops may vary depending on traffic conditions.

DAY 3: CAPE TOWN

FULL DAY CAPE PENINSULA TOUR

You will be picked up at your accommodation and set off on a day trip to the beautiful Cape Peninsula. First stop in Muizenberg and marvel at the colorful bath houses, which are a popular photo motif. Continue along False Bay via Kalk Bay to Simon's Town, where you will visit the famous penguin colony on Boulders Beach (admission optional). Continue to the Cape of Good Hope National Park with the Cape of Good Hope and its typical Cape flora and fauna (admission included). Via Chapmans Peak Drive, one of the most beautiful coastal roads in the world, you continue to Hout Bay with its small fishing harbor, where you can take a boat trip to the seal banks of Duiker Island (subject to time and optional). You return to Cape Town in the late afternoon and are dropped off at your accommodation.

DAY 4 TO DAY 6:

POSITION BOSCH

Stellenbosch is the heart of South African wine production. Countless wine estates are lined up next to each other, and you can get to know South Africa's fine wines at one or two wine tastings. The scenically impressive mountain ranges offer unique hiking opportunities. The second oldest city in the country has a beautiful historic city center with many listed buildings in the Cape Dutch architectural style. Cafés, restaurants and boutiques invite you to stroll and linger. Thanks to the local university, Stellenbosch is a very lively and young city, despite its historical background.

The beautiful Roosenwijn Guest House, a lovingly renovated and listed Victorian building, is located in the center of Stellenbosch. Restaurants, cafes, boutiques, the Botanical Gardens and the historic town center are all within walking distance. Countless wineries can be reached in less than 15 minutes by car. The 15 rooms have a bathroom/WC, air conditioning, a safe, a TV, a minibar and a tea/coffee maker. The Classic Rooms are slightly larger than the Standard Rooms. DAY 5: STELLENBOSCH

FULL DAY SCHEDULED STELLENBOSCH WINE TOUR

You will be picked up from your accommodation in the morning. With a wine expert, you will set off on a day trip to the Stellenbosch wine regions and stop at hand-picked wine estates to get to know the region's outstanding fine wines.

The focus of this day tour is on small and beautifully situated boutique wineries away from the mass tourism of the usual wine tours. In addition to the region's famous red and white wines, you will also taste the excellent sparkling wines, some of which are produced using the Champagne method.

The tour can vary depending on the day of the week and time of year. Depending on the time of year, you will visit around three wineries to gain a differentiated insight into local wine production. As a rule, there is also a cellar tour (not on certain days of the week or public holidays). In between, you will stop at a good restaurant for lunch (optional). Depending on the time and route, a short flying visit to the historic center of Stellenbosch is also possible. You will be dropped off at your accommodation again in the afternoon.

The tour language is English. A maximum of eight people take part in this tour. The cost of wine tasting is already included in the price. The costs for lunch and other drinks are not included in the price. For an additional charge, this tour can also be booked as a private guided tour in German.

DAY 6 TO DAY 7:

HERMANUS

The tour continues to the "whale capital" of South Africa, Hermanus. Here you have the best opportunities to watch whales from the coast between June and November. Of course, you can also take a boat trip out to sea to get even closer to the largest mammals on earth. But Hermanus also has a lot to offer outside the whale season in the South African summer. There are excellent beaches, great restaurants and the Fernkloof Nature Reserve, a unique nature reserve with typical fynbos vegetation and many hiking trails. Even winegrowing has now left its insider status here in the Coastal Region. Over 30 wineries have joined together to form various wine routes.

The Hermanus Boutique Guesthouse is located on the famous Cliff Path and within walking distance of the small town center with many restaurants and shopping opportunities. The guesthouse has a large lounge and breakfast area as well as a cozy courtyard with pool and sun loungers. The 18 rooms have a bathroom/WC (some have an open bathroom solution with separate WC), a TV, air conditioning, a tea/coffee maker, a minibar, a safe and free WiFi. The Standard Rooms are located in the main building and measure around 30 sqm. The Luxury Pool View Rooms, which are approximately 30 m² in size, are located in an adjoining building next to the pool area. The Luxury Sea View Rooms (approx. 35 sqm) are located in the main building and have a small balcony or veranda with sea view. The 40 sqm Honeymoon Suites are located on the second floor of the main building and have a balcony with sea view. DAY 6: HERMANUS

BOAT-BASED WHALE WATCHING INCL. PICK-UP

OPTIONALLY BOOKABLE FROM 145 € PER PERSON

In the South African winter months from June to November, you have the best chance of spotting Southern Right Whales (right whales) and Humpback Whales (humpbacks) in Walker Bay near Hermanus. You can get within 50 meters of these gigantic marine mammals by boat. This is an experience that no one should miss, especially if the whales are not directly on the coast. If you are lucky, you may also spot dolphins, penguins, sharks and seals during the trip.

The trip takes about two hours and starts at New Harbour in Hermanus. You will be picked up at your accommodation in good time by transfer and then dropped off there again. The tour is in English and is conducted with additional people. A small refreshment is included in the price. We recommend booking this activity in advance, especially in the popular months of October and November, as places on the boat are limited and may be fully booked on site. If the trip has to be canceled at short notice due to weather conditions, we will refund the price after your trip.

This service can be booked for an additional charge.

DAY 7: HERMANUS

ONEWAY TRANSFER TO OUDTSHOORN

In the case of a transfer from your accommodation, you will be picked up at the entrance of your guesthouse, lodge or hotel at the agreed time. You will be driven to your destination and dropped off at your accommodation or at the airport.

For transfers from the airport, you will be met personally in the arrivals hall. Please look out for a person carrying a sign with your name on it. If an explicit pick-up point or meeting point is mentioned in your tour book, please go there. You will be driven to your destination and dropped off at your accommodation.

The transfer company has all the necessary licenses and insurance for its vehicles and drivers to guarantee legal passenger transportation (no Uber or similar). For long-distance transfers, toilet and catering stops are made as required (catering not included in the price).

DAY 7 TO DAY 8:

OUDTSHOORN

Oudtshoorn is the jewel of the Little Karoo semi-desert and the largest town along Route 62. The C.P. Nel Museum in the town center explains the history of the town and its rise to become the "ostrich capital" of South Africa. A stop at one of the local ostrich farms is a must, where you can learn a lot about the largest and flightless birds in the world and admire the historic ostrich palaces. The Cango Caves, a huge stalactite cave landscape that is one of the most impressive in the world, are definitely worth a visit. Adventure-seekers with the right vehicle can take a drive over the famous Swartberg Pass, but guided tours are also available. An insider tip is the Rust en Vrede waterfall, located east of the Cango Caves. Clear nights with little light pollution make for an impressive starry sky, and professional stargazers offer appropriate evening observation activities. On several farms, the cute meerkats can be spotted early in the morning on guided tours. Some interesting wineries, such as the Karusa Estate, offer wine tastings.

You will stay at Hlangana Lodge, a renovated Victorian property in a quiet side street near the city center. Various ostrich farms and the Cango Caves are about a 30-minute drive away. The 23 modern rooms have a bathroom/WC, air conditioning, TV, minibar, tea/coffee making facilities, safe, and terrace. The Superior Rooms are more spacious than the Standard Rooms. The Deluxe Rooms also have an outdoor shower. The Honeymoon Suite also has a lounge area and a private courtyard. The accommodation offers a lounge, a bar, a garden with a pool, a fitness room, and free Wi-Fi.

DAY 8: OUDTSHOORN

OUDTSHOORN TO KNYSNA PRIVATE DAY TOUR

You will be picked up from your accommodation in Oudtshoorn in the morning. The first stop on the itinerary is a local ostrich farm. Oudtshoorn is the ostrich capital of South Africa. Here you will learn a lot about the breeding of the world's largest flightless birds.

Continue to the Karusa Wine Estate, where you can taste up to five of the locally produced wines. For those less interested in wine, the estate also has its own brewery with interesting craft beers (all tastings optional). Afterwards, you have the opportunity to have lunch at the winery (lunch optional). The winery is closed on Sundays and public holidays, when an alternative program takes place.

Your next stop is the Cango Caves, a unique stalactite cave landscape located just outside Oudtshoorn in the idyllic Schoemanshoek Valley. Here you embark on a fairly easy guided tour through huge caves and narrow passages (no climbing or crawling).

You leave the dry semi-desert and continue along the green coast to Wilderness, where you stop briefly to take photos on the beautiful beach. The journey continues along the beautiful coastline of Wilderness and Sedgefield with their stunning lake landscapes and dense forests in the hinterland. In the late afternoon, you will be dropped off at your accommodation in Knysna.

The tour language is English, no other people take part. The entrance fees for the Cango Caves and the ostrich farm are included in the tour price. The wine or beer tasting and lunch are not included in the tour price.

DAY 8 TO DAY 11:

KNYSNA

You continue to the small town of Knysna with its famous lagoon, which is only connected to the Indian Ocean by a small strait. A boat trip on the lagoon is a real highlight. Knysna is the center of the Garden Route and offers many opportunities for daytime activities. The dense forests in the hinterland or the beautiful coastal sections are ideal for hiking, the nearby beaches for swimming and relaxing. From June to November, you may be lucky enough to spot whales. The town itself and the small waterfront with its cafés, stores and boutiques also invite you to stroll and linger.

The modern Rex Hotel is centrally located on Gray Street. Several shopping centers, the waterfront lagoon, and countless cafes and restaurants are within easy walking distance. The 56 rooms feature a bathroom with toilet, air conditioning, a safe, a TV, tea and coffee making facilities, a minibar, and free Wi-Fi. The hotel also offers a courtyard with a pool and a bistro.

DAY 9: KNYSNA

KNYSNA PRIVATE HALF DAY TOUR

You'll be picked up at your lodging and set out on a privately guided half-day tour of Knysna's highlights. You can choose from three different focus areas for this tour:

The first highlight is the region’s scenic beauty. You’ll visit various lookout points offering breathtaking views of the lagoon and the open sea, and you can take a short walk along the beach. Optionally, you can also take a boat tour of the lagoon.

The second focus is on Knysna’s rich history, from its beginnings as a simple logging and trading post to the present day. Many buildings from the 19th and early 20th centuries can still be visited, and there are also a few interesting museums to explore if you’d like.

The third highlight is the culinary delights the town has to offer. Knysna is considered the “oyster capital” of South Africa, and you can take part in an oyster tasting. There’s also a local gin distillery and craft beer brewery that offer tastings as well. On Thesen Island, there’s an upscale artisan bakery that’s perfect for a delicious lunch (all tastings and meals are optional).

The tour language is English, no other people take part. Food, drinks, entrance fees and other costs are not included in the tour price and will be paid by you on site, if desired. This tour can be started at 9:00 am and 2:00 pm.

DAY 10: KNYSNA

FEATHERBED ECO EXPERIENCE

OPTIONALLY BOOKABLE FROM 110 € PER PERSON

On this half-day excursion, discover the most beautiful private nature reserve on the Garden Route, the Featherbed Nature Reserve, a paradise not only for bird lovers.

We take a boat across the Knysna lagoon to the reserve below the Western Head, the western boundary of the lagoon from the open sea. A four-wheel drive vehicle takes you through the beautiful nature and to spectacular viewpoints. Afterwards, enjoy a picnic in the open air under old Milkwood trees. You then have the option of walking back to the jetty through the forest and along ancient caves. The boat will then take you back towards the Knysna Waterfront.

The excursion starts in the late morning near the Knysna waterfront and takes about four hours. A light lunch is included. The tour is in English and is conducted with additional people.

This service can be booked for an additional charge.

DAY 10: KNYSNA

ROBBERG COASTAL PRIVATE HALF DAY HIKE

OPTIONALLY BOOKABLE FROM 95 € PER PERSON

You will be picked up at your accommodation in Knysna. The drive heads east towards Plettenberg Bay to the Robberg Nature Reserve. The small nature reserve forms a peninsula in front of the elongated bay of Plettenberg Bay and enjoys UNESCO World Heritage status. There are always great views of the sea and, with a bit of luck, you may spot seals, dolphins or even whales (June to November).

You set off on the approximately 5.5 km long Witsand circular hiking trail and have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful surroundings time and again. The Robberg Nature Reserve is one of the most beautiful coastal reserves on the entire Garden Route. After around four hours, you will be dropped off at your accommodation in Knysna.

The tour language is English, no other people take part. Drinking water and entrance fees are included in the tour price. This is a moderate hike, you should be sure-footed. Sturdy shoes, clothing suitable for the weather and sun protection are essential. The hike can be started at 9:00 am or 2:00 pm.

This service can be booked for an additional charge.

DAY 11: KNYSNA

KNYSNA TO TSITSIKAMMA PRIVATE DAY TOUR

You will be picked up at your accommodation in Knysna at 9 am. The drive heads east along beautiful stretches of coastline and through dense forests to the western part of the Tsitsikamma National Park. The beautiful Natures Valley is characterized by untouched stretches of beach. You take a walk in a paradisiacal setting, where the Groot River flows into the Indian Ocean.

Continue to the impressive Bloukrans Bridge, which offers the highest commercial bungee jump in the world. With a bit of luck, you can watch daring adventurers jump into the depths. Here you also have the opportunity to fortify yourself with an optional lunch. Your next stop is the famous Big Tree, a Yellowwood tree over 800 years old and almost 40 meters high, a worthy representative of the original tree population in the Tsitsikamma National Park.

The last stop is the mouth of the Storms River on the rugged rocky coast in the east of the national park. Here you take a short and relatively easy hike to the famous Suspension Bridge, an almost 80m long suspension bridge over the Storms River, one of the most popular photo opportunities in the region. If time permits, you can take a short boat trip on the river (optional). You will be dropped off at your accommodation in the Tsitsikamma at around 16:00.

The tour language is English, no other people take part. The entrance fees (conservation fees) are already included in the tour price. Lunch and the boat trip are not included in the tour price.

DAY 11 TO DAY 12:

TSITSIKAMMA

The Tsitsikamma National Park is the largest contiguous forest area in South Africa and is ideal for hiking or relaxing. The hiking trails always offer fantastic views of the dense forests and the endless sea. At the Storms River Restcamp in the eastern part of the park, you can take short boat trips on the river of the same name. The famous Suspension Bridge, a suspension bridge over the river, is also located here. Various long hiking trails start directly at the camp. The western part, the Natures Valley, also offers beautiful nature and the best hiking opportunities. With a bit of luck, you can even spot whales (seasonal) and dolphins from land.

You will spend the night at The Fernery Lodge in a private nature reserve just east of the Storms River. From the lodge you have a breathtaking view over the Indian Ocean, the gorge of the Sanddrift River and the dense forests. There are seven lodge rooms in the main building and 13 detached chalets set slightly apart, all of which have en-suite bathrooms, a TV, minibar and tea/coffee making facilities. The Premier Suite has a fireplace and a deck with sea views. The Premier Rooms have a deck overlooking the gorge or the sea. The Lodge Rooms have a veranda with access to the garden. The Chalets have a veranda with barbecue facilities and a lounge area with kitchenette and fireplace. In addition to the double bed, the Family Chalets have two single beds for children under the age of 16. The twin units have two separate bedrooms, each with its own bathroom/WC and private plunge pool on the veranda. The accommodation offers a lounge area, a bar, a restaurant, a pool, a jacuzzi, a sauna and free Wi-Fi. Various hiking trails start right outside the door. Mountain bikes can be rented for a fee.

GREATER ADDO

The private Amakhala Game Reserve is located near the Addo Elephant Park in a malaria-free environment. The reserve is home to the Big Five, i.e. lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo and rhinos, as well as many other African wild animals. The 8500-hectare reserve on the Bushmans River offers a beautiful landscape typical of the Eastern Cape. In contrast to the state-run Addo Elephant Park, only overnight guests have access to the private reserves. These are therefore much better suited for a short stay for unique game viewing. The small lodges also offer a very personal atmosphere. Specially trained rangers ensure a first-class nature experience.

Woodbury Lodge in the Amakhala Game Reserve is stunningly situated on a hillside with great views of the Bushmans River and the valley. It offers you an intimate and peaceful experience in the typical Eastern Cape bush (known as "riverine bushveld"). The lodge consists of seven brick and thatched chalets, all with en-suite bathrooms, air-conditioning, mini-bar, tea/coffee making facilities, safe and private verandah. The family chalets have an additional room with two single beds. The communal area of the lodge offers a pool with sun loungers, a viewing deck, a lounge area, a boma (traditional campfire area) and free Wi-Fi.

For each overnight stay you take part in two guided game drives in an open off-road vehicle (English-speaking, participation with other people), which take place in the afternoon before dinner and in the morning before breakfast.
