ABOUT THIS TRIP

Discover almost all of South Africa's major highlights in one trip. The many kilometers to be covered are balanced out somewhat by the longer duration of your stay. You will experience fascinating landscapes on the Panorama Route and in the Karoo semi-desert, pristine wildlife in Kruger Park and Zululand, breathtaking mountain ranges in Eswatini and the Drakensberg, beautiful beaches on the Dolphin Coast and the Garden Route, endless expanses in the Karoo semi-desert, dense forests in Tsitsikamma National Park, seasonal whales on the south coast, culinary delights in the wine regions and Cape Town, one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

We are happy to change this tour itinerary or the rental car category according to your individual wishes. Please contact us for your personal offer. This tour can be started all year round, but we recommend focusing on the north from May to August. You should allow about four weeks for this route. A four-wheel drive vehicle is not necessary for this tour, but a car with a higher wheelbase can certainly be helpful.

DAY 1 TO DAY 2 (APPROX. 10 KM):

JOHANNESBURG

On arrival at Johannesburg Airport or at the agreed station, you will receive your rental car. Johannesburg or "Joburg", as the City of Gold is usually simply called, is the largest metropolis in South Africa and the entire African continent. With a population of around 4 million, the city on the Witwatersrand is the pre-eminent economic center and the economic engine of the Republic of South Africa. The metropolis offers a wide range of cultural activities that combine African and European components.

The modern One O Eight Boutique Hotel is located about a 15-minute drive from the international airport on the lake of the Korsman Bird Sanctuary. Here you can escape the stress of the big city in beautiful natural surroundings and do some exciting bird watching. The hotel's seven suites have a bathroom/WC, air conditioning, a minibar, a tea/coffee maker, a TV, a safe and free Wi-Fi. The North Facing Suites have a balcony with a view to the north. The Lake Facing Suites have a balcony or terrace with lake view. The spacious Presidential Suite has a veranda with lake view and private whirlpool. DAY 2 TO DAY 4 (APPROX. 440 KM):

HOEDSPRUIT

Your destination is the almost 50,000-hectare private Balule Game Reserve in Kruger Park. In contrast to the state-run national parks, only overnight guests have access to the private reserves. The small lodges have a very personal atmosphere. Specially trained rangers ensure a first-class nature experience. A private reserve is preferable for a short stay, as it is much easier to observe animals under expert guidance. Balule has had no fences to the national Kruger Park for many years, so the animals, including the Big Five, can move around freely.

The intimate Greenfire Game Lodge with only nine modern chalet suites is beautifully nestled in the unique bush landscape overlooking the Mohlabetsi Riverbed. The detached suites have a bathroom/WC, a safe, air-conditioning and a private veranda with seating and a view of the riverbed. The lodge offers a viewing deck with pool, a bar, a restaurant, a boma (traditional campfire dining area) and free Wi-Fi.

For each overnight stay you take part in two guided game drives in an open off-road vehicle (English-speaking, participation with other people), which take place in the afternoon before dinner and in the morning before breakfast.

GREENFIRE GAME LODGE (CHALET SUITE)

2X OVERNIGHT STAY WITH FULL BOARD AND 4 ACTIVITIES

DAY 4 TO DAY 6 (APPROX. 110 KM):

HAZYVIEW

Hazyview is ideally located between the scenically unique Panorama Route and the world-famous Kruger Park. From here you can take day trips to the Blyde River Canyon, the Bourkes Luck Potholes and various waterfalls as well as to the Big Five and all other African wildlife. It is also possible to discover the highlights of the Panorama Route or the Kruger Park on the way to or from the private game reserves.

Abangane Guest Lodge is situated just outside Hazyview and is a good base from which to explore the Kruger Park and the attractions of the Panorama Route. The lodge offers peace and relaxation with a fantastic view of the untouched bush landscape of the Lowveld. Despite its location close to nature, restaurants and shopping facilities are only a few minutes' drive away. There is a subtropical garden, a pool, an outdoor terrace and a guest lounge. The five rooms have a private bathroom/WC, air conditioning, a minibar, a tea/coffee maker, a TV, a safe, a veranda with a view and free Wi-Fi. The Honeymoon Suite is more spacious and also offers a separate spa bath.

DAY 6 TO DAY 8 (APPROX. 290 KM):

ESWATINI

The independent kingdom of Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) is an interesting facet of any trip through northern South Africa. Crossing this original and traditional country is very exciting in terms of landscape and culture. The center is the beautiful Ezulwini Valley with the two culturally interesting towns of Mbabane and Manzini on one side and the Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary and Mantenga Nature Reserve on the other. Please note that the infrastructure and comfort cannot necessarily keep up with that of South Africa, and you will also have to allow for waiting times when crossing the border. You will be rewarded with an exciting and authentic piece of Africa.

Just a short drive from the Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary and the capital Mbabane, this luxury boutique hotel is located in the middle of a beautiful botanical garden. Some interesting hiking trails start right outside the door. The 34 rooms all have a bathroom/WC, a TV/DVD player, a minibar, a safe, air conditioning, a tea/coffee maker and free WLAN. The Dove Nest Rooms are located in a beautiful villa and share a small private garden with seating. The Luxury Suites also offer a small lounge area and a dressing room. The Executive Suites also offer a spacious lounge area, a dressing room and a private veranda with seating. There is space for extra beds for children in these two room categories. The spacious Garden Villas have a separate bedroom, a lounge/dining area, a dressing room and a private veranda with seating. The resort offers several bars and restaurants, an outdoor terrace, a pool, as well as various sports and observation activities (some for a fee).

SUMMERFIELD RESORT (EXECUTIVE SUITE)

DAY 8 TO DAY 10 (APPROX. 340 KM):

HLUHLUWE

Your next destination is the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park, which is divided into the northern Hluhluwe section and the southern Imfolozi section. The two rivers of the same name gave the park its name. The park is home to the Big Five, i.e. elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos and buffalo, as well as many other African wild animals. The rhino population in particular is larger here than anywhere else in the world. With over 20000 hectares of rolling hills and open savannah, the park is one of the most beautiful state game reserves in South Africa.

The luxurious Rhino Ridge Safari Lodge is the only private lodge in the Hluhluwe section of the park and offers breathtaking views over the African bush. The lodge has an outdoor pool, sun deck, fire pit, bar, restaurant and spa area (for a fee). The 16 modern rooms have a bathroom/WC, air conditioning, a fan, a minibar, a tea/coffee maker, a safe, a private outdoor deck and free Wi-Fi. The Family Rooms have two separate bedrooms, each with its own bathroom/WC. The Luxury Bush Villas have an additional lounge area with fireplace and a larger outdoor deck. The Honeymoon Bush Villas also offer a private plunge pool on the outside deck.

You take part in two guided game drives per night in an open off-road vehicle (English-speaking, participation with other people), which take place in the afternoon before dinner and in the morning before breakfast. You pay the entrance fees (conservation fees) on site.

DAY 10 TO DAY 12 (APPROX. 70 KM):

ST. LUCIA

Your destination is the small town of St. Lucia in northern KwaZulu-Natal. This is the ideal starting point for excursions in the surrounding area. Take a boat trip to the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and discover hippos, crocodiles and unique birdlife. The Eastern Shore Section with Cape Vidal is a unique nature retreat with a real bush & beach feeling between the ocean and the evergreen hinterland, which is even home to three of the Big Five. The beautiful beach of St. Lucia with subtropical water temperatures invites you to swim all year round. An excursion to the famous Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park, the oldest and perhaps most beautiful game reserve in South Africa with its Big Five, is also an absolute highlight.

The modern Serene Estate Boutique Guest House is located on the outskirts of St. Lucia, overlooking the subtropical landscape of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. The town center with restaurants and stores as well as the beach are within walking distance. The guest house impresses with its minimalist architecture, which nevertheless blends into the landscape. Bright colors and lighting effects were used to create the African ambience. The five rooms have a bathroom/WC, air conditioning, a fan, a minibar, a TV, a safe, a tea/coffee maker and free WiFi. The Garden Rooms are approximately 35 square meters in size and have a private veranda. The Parkside Suites are approximately 50sqm and offer a private balcony overlooking the Wetland Park. BLOEMFONTEIN

The modern city with a population of over 400,000 offers some interesting historical buildings and museums as well as good shopping and foodie temples.

DAY 16 TO DAY 17 (APPROX. 440 KM):

GRAAFF-REINET

Graaff-Reinet is one of South Africa’s oldest towns and is considered the jewel of the Karoo semi-desert. Thanks to its many buildings in the Cape Dutch architectural style, a visit to the town feels like a stroll through a living museum. No other South African town has as many listed buildings as Graaff-Reinet. In the center stands the imposing Groot Kerk, the “Great Church,” modeled after Salisbury Cathedral in the UK. The town is almost entirely surrounded by Camdeboo National Park, which offers hiking and wildlife viewing opportunities and whose highlight is the bizarre rock formation of the “Valley of Desolation”—especially at sunset.

DAY 20 TO DAY 22 (APPROX. 130 KM):

OUDTSHOORN

Oudtshoorn is the jewel of the Little Karoo semi-desert and the largest town along Route 62. A stop at one of the local ostrich farms is a must, where you will learn a lot about the largest and flightless birds in the world. The Cango Caves, a huge stalactite cave landscape that is one of the most impressive in the world, are definitely worth a visit. Adventure-seekers with the right vehicle can take a drive over the famous Swartberg Pass, but guided tours are also available. An insider tip is the Rust en Vrede waterfall, located east of the Cango Caves. Clear nights with little light pollution make for an impressive starry sky, and professional stargazers offer appropriate observation activities. The cute meerkats can be spotted early in the morning on several farms. Some interesting wineries, such as the Karusa Estate, offer wine tastings.

Located at the foot of the mighty Swartberg Mountains in the beautiful Schoemanshoek Valley, halfway between Oudtshoorn and the Cango Caves, Berluda Farmhouse is part of a working ostrich farm. Cafés, restaurants and boutiques invite you to stroll and linger. Thanks to the local university, Stellenbosch is a very lively and young city, despite its historical background.

You will spend the night at Wedgeview Country House in the middle of the Stellenbosch vineyards. Countless wine estates are right on the doorstep. DAY 24: STELLENBOSCH

FULL DAY SCHEDULED STELLENBOSCH WINE TOUR

OPTIONALLY BOOKABLE FROM 135 € PER PERSON

You will be picked up from your accommodation in the morning. With a wine expert, you will set off on a day trip to the Stellenbosch wine regions and stop at hand-picked wine estates to get to know the region's outstanding fine wines.

The focus of this day tour is on small and beautifully situated boutique wineries away from the mass tourism of the usual wine tours. In addition to the region's famous red and white wines, you will also taste the excellent sparkling wines, some of which are produced using the Champagne method.

DAY 25 TO DAY 28 (APPROX. 40 KM):

CAPE TOWN

Welcome to the Mother City. Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. To get an overview, your first excursion should be to Table Mountain. A drive along Chapmans Peak Drive, an impressive coastal road that leads past the penguin colony at Boulders Beach to the Cape of Good Hope, is also a must. On the way, you can visit the oldest wine estates on the Cape in Constantia. The V&A Waterfront is inviting with its countless stores and restaurants. The ferries to the former prison island of Robben Island also depart from here.
