ABOUT THIS TRIP

South Africa is the ideal destination for honeymooners (and those who have been or want to be). There is a wide range of romantic accommodation and activities. Experience the highlights of this beautiful country for lovers in a stress-free trip, bridging the long distance between north and south on a domestic flight. For this tour, we have hand-picked top accommodation in the Superior Plus category. Please note that most accommodations usually only have one honeymoon suite and it is therefore advisable to book early.

We are happy to change this tour itinerary or the rental car category according to your individual wishes. Please contact us for your personal offer. You should allow just under three weeks for this trip. This trip can be started all year round, but we recommend focusing on the north from May to August. A four-wheel drive vehicle is not necessary for this trip, but a vehicle with a higher wheelbase is sometimes helpful.

DAY 1 TO DAY 3 (APPROX. 50 MILES):

HOEDSPRUIT

Upon arrival at Hoedspruit Airport or the agreed station, you will receive your rental car. Your destination is the private Karongwe Game Reserve in Kruger National Park, which is home to the Big Five as well as all other African wildlife. Unlike the state-run Kruger Park, only overnight guests have access to the private reserves. These are therefore much better suited for a short stay for unique wildlife viewing. The small lodges also offer a very personal atmosphere. Specially trained rangers ensure a first-class nature experience.

The spacious Karongwe River Lodge on the Makhutsi River consists of only eleven detached chalet suites, all with fantastic views over the African bush and the northern foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains. The spacious chalets offer a bathroom/WC, tea/coffee making facilities, a minibar, air conditioning, mosquito nets over the bed, a safe and a private veranda with a view. There is space for an extra bed for children in the Luxury Suites. The Family Suites offer an additional bedroom for up to three more people. The Executive Suites are even more spacious and the Presidential Suites have their own plunge pool on the veranda. The lodge has a pool, a boma (traditional campfire dining area), a shelter overlooking a waterhole, a bar, a restaurant and a large outdoor deck overlooking the river. Free WLAN is available.

For each overnight stay you take part in two guided game drives in an open off-road vehicle (English-speaking, participation with other people), which take place in the afternoon before dinner and in the morning before breakfast.

KARONGWE RIVER LODGE (PRESIDENTIAL SUITE)

2X OVERNIGHT STAY WITH FULL BOARD AND 4 ACTIVITIES

DAY 3 TO DAY 5 (APPROX. 150 KM):

HAZYVIEW

Hazyview is ideally located between the scenically unique Panorama Route and the world-famous Kruger Park. From here you can take day trips to the Blyde River Canyon, the Bourkes Luck Potholes and various waterfalls as well as to the Big Five and all other African wildlife. It is also possible to discover the highlights of the Panorama Route or the Kruger Park on the way to or from the private game reserves.

The upscale accommodation The Zarafa is located in the middle of beautiful bushveld near Hazyview, very close to the Kruger Park and the attractions of the Panorama Route. You stay in one of five private Asian-style villas, which are equipped with a bathroom/WC, air conditioning, a minibar, a TV, a safe, a tea/coffee maker, a lounge area with a fireplace and an outdoor terrace with a private plunge pool and views of the natural surroundings. One villa has two separate bedrooms. The accommodation offers a restaurant, a bar, a spa area (for a fee) and free WiFi.

DAY 5 (APPROX. 50 KM): NELSPRUIT

ONEWAY FLIGHT TO GEORGE VIA JOHANNESBURG

A domestic or regional flight is the fastest and most convenient way to cover longer distances in southern Africa. Thanks to various competitors, there is a dense network of scheduled flights to a total of more than 25 airports. All local airlines fly with modern aircraft that meet the highest safety standards and are of course regularly maintained, just like in Europe.

The flight is operated in Economy Class. Depending on the airline, only one piece of checked baggage weighing 20kg to 23kg and one piece of hand baggage are permitted per person. You will receive details with your travel documents. Additional baggage, seat reservations and other services can be booked at very reasonable prices. We recommend arriving at international airports such as Windhoek, Victoria Falls, Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town at least two hours before departure; at smaller regional airports, 90 minutes is sufficient.

Please return your rental car to Nelspruit Airport or the agreed location at least two hours before departure.

DAY 5 TO DAY 8 (APPROX. 60 KM):

KNYSNA

On arrival at George Airport or at the agreed station, you will receive your new rental car. You continue to the small town of Knysna with its famous lagoon, which is only connected to the Indian Ocean by a small strait. A boat trip on the lagoon is a real highlight. Knysna is the center of the Garden Route and offers many opportunities for daytime activities. The dense forests in the hinterland or the beautiful coastal sections are ideal for hiking, the nearby beaches for swimming and relaxing. From June to November, you may be lucky enough to spot whales. The town itself and the small waterfront with its cafés, stores and boutiques also invite you to stroll and linger.

The Pezula Nature Hotel & SPA is located in the middle of a natural paradise and is surrounded by fynbos vegetation and forests with ancient trees. The hotel's exceptional location high above the ocean on the Knysna Heads is breathtaking. Noetzie Beach, Knysna's "best kept secret," is just a stone's throw away. The town itself is about a ten-minute drive away. The luxurious hotel offers a restaurant, a bar with bistro, and a wellness area with fitness room, spa (for a fee), and indoor and outdoor pools. Of course, the adjacent Pezula Golf Course, one of the best in the country, is also famous. The 65 modern hotel suites all have a bathroom/WC, air conditioning, a minibar, tea/coffee making facilities, a TV, a safe, and free Wi-Fi. The Nature Suites are located on the ground floor and have their own terrace overlooking the garden. In addition, the Wood Fired Hot Tub Suites have a whirlpool. The Sky Vista Suites are located on the upper floor and have a private balcony overlooking the garden and the golf course behind it. The Sky Panoramic Suites are also located on the upper floor and offer a private balcony overlooking the golf course and the ocean or lagoon behind it.

DAY 6: KNYSNA

WHALE WATCHING BOAT TRIP

OPTIONALLY BOOKABLE FROM 120 € PER PERSON

Take a speedboat through the Knysna lagoon to the open sea. From June to November, you have the best chance of spotting southern right whales and humpback whales on South Africa's coasts. You can get within 50 meters of these gigantic marine mammals by boat. An experience that no one should miss. With a bit of luck, you may also spot dolphins, sharks and seals during the trip.

The tour language is English. The approximately two-hour boat trip takes place in an open speedboat (without WC) with other people. The start and end point is the jetty on Thesen Island, the journey there and back is your own responsibility.

This service can be booked for an additional charge.

DAY 7: KNYSNA

GARDEN ROUTE EXPERIENCE

You will take part in the following two activities during your stay in Knysna:

Knysna is a paradise for hikers. You take part in a guided hike in the Robberg Nature Reserve. The small nature reserve, which is considered the most spectacular on the entire Garden Route, is located on a peninsula in the Indian Ocean. You will always have great views of the sea and, with a bit of luck, you may spot fur seals, dolphins, sharks or even whales (seasonal). You will embark on a moderate circular walk lasting around two and a half hours and have the opportunity to enjoy the fantastic surroundings time and again (privately guided, pick-up from your accommodation).

A sunset cruise on the Knysna lagoon is probably the most romantic thing the Garden Route has to offer. The dusk bathes the whole scenery in wonderful shades of orange and red. During the boat trip you have the opportunity to try the oysters for which Knysna is so famous. This is accompanied by a glass of chilled South African white wine. The boat trip departs from Thesen Island (own arrival, with additional persons).

All activities are in English. You need to stay at least two nights on site. Conservation fees are included in the price, meals and other personal expenses are not included.

DAY 8 TO DAY 10 (APPROX. 130 KM):

OUDTSHOORN

Oudtshoorn is the jewel of the Little Karoo semi-desert and the largest town along Route 62. The C.P. Nel Museum in the town center explains the history of the town and its rise to become the "ostrich capital" of South Africa. A stop at one of the local ostrich farms is a must, where you can learn a lot about the largest and flightless birds in the world and admire the historic ostrich palaces. The Cango Caves, a huge stalactite cave landscape that is one of the most impressive in the world, are definitely worth a visit. Adventure-seekers with the right vehicle can take a drive over the famous Swartberg Pass, but guided tours are also available. An insider tip is the Rust en Vrede waterfall, located east of the Cango Caves. Clear nights with little light pollution make for an impressive starry sky, and professional stargazers offer appropriate evening observation activities. On several farms, the cute meerkats can be spotted early in the morning on guided tours. Some interesting wineries, such as the Karusa Estate, offer wine tastings.

The Rosenhof Country House is located on the northern outskirts of Oudtshoorn and is a Victorian-style villa that has been lovingly restored for discerning guests. The center, with its many shops and restaurants, is just a few minutes' drive away, and the Cango Caves are about a 25-minute drive away. All twelve luxurious suites have a bathroom/WC, air conditioning, minibar, safe, tea/coffee making facilities, TV, free Wi-Fi, and a veranda. The Executive Suites are located slightly apart and also offer a lounge area and a veranda with views of the Swartberg Mountains and a private plunge pool. An Executive Suite has two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom/WC. The accommodation has a pool, bar, restaurant, fitness room, and spa area (for a fee).

DAY 9: OUDTSHOORN

STARGAZING WITH PICK-UP

Clear nights in the dry Klein Karoo semi-desert provide an impressive starry sky with little light pollution, and professional stargazers with the appropriate equipment offer evening observation activities. Learn interesting facts from a local expert about the southern hemisphere's starry skies on a cloudless night.

This activity is in English and can be done with other people. You will be picked up and dropped off at your accommodation. Please pay attention to the pick-up time stated in your tour book.

DAY 10 TO DAY 12 (APPROX. 390 KM):

POSITION BOSCH

Stellenbosch is the heart of South African wine production. Countless wine estates are lined up next to each other, and you can get to know South Africa's fine wines at one or two wine tastings. The scenically impressive mountain ranges offer unique hiking opportunities. The second oldest city in the country has a beautiful historic city center with many listed buildings in the Cape Dutch architectural style. Cafés, restaurants and boutiques invite you to stroll and linger. Thanks to the local university, Stellenbosch is a very lively and young city, despite its historical background.

Just outside Stellenbosch on the scenic Helshoogte Pass lies this small but very fine wine estate and luxurious boutique hotel with breathtaking views of the Simonsberg Mountains. Overnight guests can choose from 15 hotel rooms, suites and villas, all of which are equipped with bath/WC, flat-screen TV with DVD player, air conditioning, Nespresso machine, iPod station, minibar, balcony or terrace, safe and free WLAN. The hotel rooms are located in the main building and differ mainly in terms of room size. The villas and suites are located slightly away from the main building. The Two Bedroom Villa has a lounge and kitchenette as well as two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom/WC. The two Pool Suites share a private pool. The hotel offers two communal pools, a large garden, a bar, a restaurant, an outdoor and indoor lounge and wine tasting for a fee.

DAY 11: STELLENBOSCH

FULL DAY PRIVATE HONEYMOON HIGHLIGHT TOUR

You will be picked up at your accommodation in the morning by your private English-speaking driver and wine expert. You set off on a romantic day trip to the wine regions of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. You will stop at very special wine estates to get to know the outstanding fine wines of the region.

The focus of this day tour is on the small and romantic boutique wineries away from mass tourism, which are particularly suitable for honeymooners. In addition to the region's famous red and white wines, you will also taste the excellent sparkling wines, some of which are produced using the champagne method.

Depending on the season, you can enjoy a leisurely picnic at a renowned vineyard in summer or stop off at one of the many great restaurants in winter.

In the afternoon, you have the option of taking part in a romantic horseback ride through the vineyards for an additional charge (prior reservation required). In the afternoon, you will either be dropped off at your accommodation.

The costs for wine tasting are already included in the price. However, the costs for lunch and other drinks as well as for the horse ride (if desired) are not included in the price. Please note that not all wineries may be open on weekdays or at certain times of the year.

DAY 12 TO DAY 15 (APPROX. 70 KM):

CAPE TOWN CAMPS BAY

Welcome to the Mother City. Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. To get an overview, your first excursion should be to Table Mountain. A drive along Chapmans Peak Drive, an impressive coastal road that leads past the penguin colony at Boulders Beach to the Cape of Good Hope, is also a must. On the way, you can visit the oldest wine estates on the Cape in Constantia. The V&A Waterfront is inviting with its countless stores and restaurants. The ferries to the former prison island of Robben Island also depart from here. On weekdays, you can explore the city center, the colourful Bo-Kaap district and the Company's Garden on foot without hesitation.

The Azamare Guest House is located in the upscale suburb of Camps Bay, with the mighty Twelve Apostles mountain range behind it and a fantastic view of the Atlantic Ocean. The beach promenade with its many bars and restaurants is within walking distance. The Table Mountain cable car station is about a ten-minute drive away, and the V&A Waterfront is about a 20-minute drive away. The seven rooms with sea views have a bathroom/WC, air conditioning, TV, minibar, safe, tea/coffee making facilities, and a balcony or veranda. The Nautilus Luxury Pool Suite also has a large lounge area and a veranda with a private plunge pool. The guest house offers a lounge, pool, hot tub, and viewing deck with sea views.
