ABOUT THIS TRIP

You’ll begin your adventure in a private game reserve within Kruger National Park. Only overnight guests are allowed access to the private reserve, and you’ll go on a safari with your ranger. With two guided game drives per night, you’ll have a good chance of spotting the Big Five and all other African wildlife. Afterward, you’ll continue on to the mighty Victoria Falls. Here, the Zambezi River plunges abruptly 100 meters over a length of more than one kilometer. You’ll take part in a guided tour of the falls as well as other activities.

This module is in English and can be started daily. Individual changes such as the number of overnight stays, alternative accommodation or additional activities are possible. The tour can be started from/to Cape Town or Johannesburg for an additional charge. This tour can also be combined with other of our modules by adding domestic flights or land transfers. DAY 1: JOHANNESBURG

ONEWAY FLIGHT TO NELSPRUIT

A domestic or regional flight is the fastest and most convenient way to cover longer distances in southern Africa. Thanks to various competitors, there is a dense network of scheduled flights to a total of more than 25 airports. All local airlines fly with modern aircraft that meet the highest safety standards and are of course regularly maintained, just like in Europe.

The flight is operated in Economy Class. Depending on the airline, only one piece of checked baggage weighing 20kg to 23kg and one piece of hand baggage are permitted per person. You will receive details with your travel documents. Additional baggage, seat reservations and other services can be booked at very reasonable prices. We recommend arriving at international airports such as Windhoek, Victoria Falls, Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town at least two hours before departure; at smaller regional airports, 90 minutes is sufficient.

DAY 1: NELSPRUIT

ONE-WAY TRANSFER TO KRUGER PARK

In the case of a transfer from your accommodation, you will be picked up at the entrance of your guesthouse, lodge or hotel at the agreed time. You will be driven to your destination and dropped off at your accommodation or at the airport.

For transfers from the airport, you will be met personally in the arrivals hall. Please look out for a person carrying a sign with your name on it. If an explicit pick-up point or meeting point is mentioned in your tour book, please go there. You will be driven to your destination and dropped off at your accommodation.

This private transfer is operated by a qualified English-speaking driver. The vehicle is air-conditioned and corresponds to your private group size, there are no other passengers. The transfer company has all the necessary licenses and insurance for its vehicles and drivers to guarantee legal passenger transportation (no Uber or similar). For long-distance transfers, toilet and catering stops are made as required (catering not included in the price).

KRUGER PARK

Kruger Park is the largest and most famous national park in South Africa, covering an area roughly the size of the Netherlands. It is home to more than 150 different mammals including the so-called "Big Five", i.e. lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo. Over 500 different bird species as well as many reptiles and amphibians make the Kruger Park the ultimate wildlife experience. For a short stay, the southern part of the park is preferable, as the animal population there is much larger than in the northern part.

The Hamiltons Tented Camp is arguably the best-known and most famous classic tented camp for discerning guests in all of South Africa. It is located on a 10,000-hectare private concession directly within Kruger National Park. The camp was built to ensure the least possible impact on the natural environment. With its high-quality furnishings and outstanding service, the camp carries on the glorious safari tradition of days gone by. You can look forward to delicious meals, fine wines, and a cozy bar. The camp’s six luxurious tented suites feature a bathroom with toilet, air conditioning, mosquito nets, an observation deck with a private plunge pool, a lounge area, and free Wi-Fi. The lodge features a bar, a restaurant with an outdoor deck, a boma (traditional dining area around a campfire), and a pool.

For each overnight stay you take part in two guided game drives in an open off-road vehicle (English-speaking, participation with other people), which take place in the afternoon before dinner and in the morning before breakfast.

The Kruger Shalati Train, a decommissioned and luxuriously renovated train, is arguably one of the most exciting safari accommodations in Kruger National Park. Watch crocodiles, hippos, buffalos, or elephants and enjoy a fantastic view from your room. The accommodation consists of 24 train carriages located on the disused Selati Bridge high above the Sabie River in the middle of Kruger National Park. The carriages are all equipped with a bathroom/toilet, safe, minibar, air conditioning, and a coffee and tea station. The lodge offers a pool with a fantastic view and sun terrace, a restaurant, room service, and a bar.

Per night, you will take part in two guided game drives in an open off-road vehicle (English-speaking, shared with other guests), which take place in the afternoon before dinner and in the morning before breakfast. The conservation fees for Kruger Park are not included in the price and must be paid on site.

VICTORIA FALLS

The mighty Victoria Falls are located directly on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia and are without doubt one of the main attractions of southern Africa - a natural wonder that is second to none! The locals call the mighty waterfall "Mosi-oa-Tunya", which translates as "thundering smoke" and describes the natural spectacle very aptly. The Zambezi River plunges abruptly into a 110-metre-deep gorge over a length of more than one kilometer, producing an enormous spray that can be seen for miles depending on the season and water level. On Zimbabwe's side of the falls, a paved circular path leads directly along the gorge and offers a constantly changing view of the water masses from 16 different vantage points.

Situated on a private concession bordered by the Masuwe River and the Zambezi Gorge, Elephant Camp offers breathtaking views of the Victoria Falls spray and the spectacular gorge that separates Zimbabwe from Zambia. Elephant Camp is a luxurious and intimate tented lodge, not far from Victoria Falls and its attractions and activities. The price includes various activities such as a guided tour to Victoria Falls, game drives in the concession area, sundowners at Batoka Gorge and a visit to the Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust. Victoria Falls River Lodge is the first private lodge in Zambezi National Park, about a 30-minute drive from Victoria Falls town. The luxurious tented lodge is located on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River and offers great views of the river. Wild animals are a common sight around the camp. The 13 luxurious tented suites feature a bathroom/WC with separate bathtub, an outdoor shower, a hairdryer, a minibar, a coffee/tea station, a mosquito net, a fan, a safe, and a veranda with a private plunge pool. The lodge offers a restaurant, lounge, bar, spa area (for a fee), pool, free Wi-Fi, and three observation hides overlooking a waterhole.

The price includes local beverages, transfers to/from Victoria Falls, and two guided activities per night, with a choice of game drives, boat tours, or excursions to the town and waterfalls (English-speaking, conducted with other guests). The child rate applies to one child under the age of 12 staying in their parents' room. One child under the age of two stays free of charge. For children aged 12 and over, the adult rate generally applies. Not all accommodation allows children of all ages.

The Kruger Park, northern KwaZulu-Natal (Hluhluwe, St. Lucia) and Zimbabwe (except for a few regions above 1200m) are malaria-prone areas. Please ask your doctor whether prophylaxis is advisable for you.

APPROXIMATE ADDITIONAL COSTS THAT ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE

Long-haul flights to Southern Africa in Economy Class cost from EUR 900, while prices can be well over EUR 1000 in the high season. Flights in Premium Economy Class are available from 1500 EUR, in Business Class flights cost from 2500 EUR (per person for outward and return flights). All prices are average values depending on the airline and season. The actual prices at a given time depend on the number of bookings and may vary. Early booking is recommended, especially in the high season.

A light lunch costs around EUR 7 (small salad, soup) to EUR 13 (pizza, pasta, burger) per person, a dinner around EUR 17 (pizza, pasta, burger, large salad) to EUR 24 (steak, fish) to EUR 29 (three-course meal) per person. Coffee, tea, beer or soft drinks cost around EUR 2.80 per cup or glass. Prices may vary upwards or downwards depending on the region or type of restaurant.

Entrance fees to national parks cost between EUR 5 and EUR 25 per person per day, depending on the size and popularity of the park. Entrance fees to museums or other attractions cost between EUR 3 and EUR 20 per person. Children under the age of 12 usually pay half price.
