ABOUT THIS TRIP

Discover the beauty of the country in a malaria-free setting without missing out on what makes a trip to South Africa truly memorable. You’ll experience the majestic Drakensberg Mountains, the extraordinary wildlife in a private Big Five game reserve, the warm Indian Ocean along the Dolphin Coast, the highlights of the evergreen Garden Route, the arid semi-desert of the Little Karoo, seasonal whales off Hermanus, the delightful wine regions of Stellenbosch, and, of course, the Mother City of Cape Town with the picturesque Cape Peninsula.

You don't want to drive yourself, but a small group tour doesn't have the right start date for you and a privately guided tour is too expensive? Then our English-speaking chauffeur-driven tours are just the right alternative. Your private chauffeur will take you from place to place, where you will then take part in privately guided day activities and excursions (with the exception of game viewing activities with other people). However, you do not have the all-round support of a continuous tour guide. All chauffeur-driven tours can start daily and can be adapted to your wishes at any point beforehand. The more people take part in your own chauffeur-driven tour, the lower the price per person.

For transfers from the airport, you will be met personally in the arrivals hall. Please look out for a person carrying a sign with your name on it. This private transfer is operated by a qualified English-speaking driver. The vehicle is air-conditioned and corresponds to your private group size, there are no other passengers. The transfer company has all the necessary licenses and insurance for its vehicles and drivers to guarantee legal passenger transportation (no Uber or similar). For long-distance transfers, toilet and catering stops are made as required (catering not included in the price).

DAY 1 TO DAY 3:

BERGVILLE

You drive to the northern Drakensberg near the small village of Bergville. This is the ideal starting point to explore the beautiful Royal Natal National Park with the famous mountain formation of the Amphitheater and the unique Tugela Falls. There are numerous hiking trails of varying lengths and levels of difficulty. The surrounding area also has a lot to offer with the Giants Castle Game Reserve, the Spioenkop Dam Nature Reserve and the Battlefields Route.

Stay in a chalet in the upscale Montusi Mountain Lodge with a view of the famous amphitheater. The well-kept and spacious outdoor area invites you to relax and unwind. Adventurous guests can reach all the highlights of the northern Drakensberg from here on day trips. The 14 detached chalets offer a bathroom/WC, a lounge area with a separate bedroom, a fan, underfloor heating, a fireplace, a TV, a minibar, a tea/coffee maker and a veranda with mountain views. The Family Suites have two separate bedrooms, each with its own bathroom/WC. The Mountain View Chalets also have a large skylight with mountain views from the bedroom. The lodge has a restaurant, a bar, an outdoor veranda with a view, a pool and a large garden. Several hiking trails to a small waterfall, to a cave with historical rock paintings or to the summit of Mountusi Peak start right outside the door. Horse riding can be organized at the hotel's own riding stable for a fee.

DAY 2: BERGVILLE

SCENIC SUNDOWNER 4X4 TRIP

You set off on a sundowner drive in an off-road vehicle to the private Montusi Estate with a fantastic view of the amphitheater in the light of the setting sun. Dusk is probably the most magical time in the mountains. With a bit of luck, you can also marvel at the typical wildlife of the Drakensberg on the way, as zebras, eland antelopes and other wild animals are not rare guests. On the way, you make a sundowner stop at a beautiful viewpoint.

This excursion starts in the afternoon and lasts approximately two hours. A sundowner drink and light snacks are included. The tour is conducted in English and may be shared with other participants.

DAY 3: BERGVILLE

ONEWAY TRANSFER TO LADYSMITH

In the case of a transfer from your accommodation, you will be picked up at the entrance of your guesthouse, lodge or hotel at the agreed time. You will be driven to your destination and dropped off at your accommodation or at the airport.

For transfers from the airport, you will be met personally in the arrivals hall. Please look out for a person carrying a sign with your name on it. DAY 3 TO DAY 5:

LADYSMITH

Close to Ladysmith is the approximately 9000ha malaria-free Nambiti Game Reserve, still an insider tip in South Africa. The private game reserve is home to the Big Five and many other African wild animals such as zebras, giraffes, antelopes and cheetahs. The varied landscape consists of vast savannahs, dense bushland and green valleys, crossed by the Sundays River. In contrast to state-run national parks, only overnight guests have access to the private reserves. These are therefore much better suited to a short stay for unique wildlife sightings. The small lodges also offer a very personal atmosphere. Specially trained rangers ensure a first-class nature experience.

The luxurious Umzolozolo Safari Lodge is situated on a hill in the southern part of the Nambiti Private Game Reserve and offers spectacular views over the surrounding area. The lodge has nine luxurious detached chalets and suites with panoramic views that blend seamlessly into the landscape. All rooms are equipped with bath/WC, indoor and outdoor showers, air-conditioning, private balcony overlooking the valley, tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer, TV and minibar. The Luxury Chalets are furnished in traditional safari style and have a pull-out sofa for children. A Luxury Chalet has two separate bedrooms, each with its own bathroom/WC. The Luxury Suites are slightly more spacious and more modern. The Presidential Suite also has an outdoor whirlpool. The lodge has a spacious lounge, an infinity pool with a view, a boma (traditional campfire dining area), a spa (for a fee) and free WiFi.

You will take part in two guided game drives per night in an open off-road vehicle (English-speaking, participation with other people), which take place in the afternoon before dinner and in the morning before breakfast. Conservation fees are paid on site.

ONEWAY FLIGHT TO GEORGE

A domestic or regional flight is the fastest and most convenient way to cover longer distances in southern Africa. Thanks to various competitors, there is a dense network of scheduled flights to a total of more than 25 airports. All local airlines fly with modern aircraft that meet the highest safety standards and are of course regularly maintained, just like in Europe.

The flight is operated in Economy Class. Depending on the airline, only one piece of checked baggage weighing 20kg to 23kg and one piece of hand baggage are permitted per person. You will receive details with your travel documents. Additional baggage, seat reservations and other services can be booked at very reasonable prices. We recommend arriving at international airports such as Windhoek, Victoria Falls, Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town at least two hours before departure; at smaller regional airports, 90 minutes is sufficient.

DAY 6 TO DAY 9:

KNYSNA

Knysna, with its striking lagoon, is the center of the Garden Route and offers a wide range of daytime activities. The dense forests in the hinterland or the beautiful coastal sections are ideal for hiking, the nearby beaches for swimming and relaxing. Boat trips are offered on the lagoon. From June to November, you may be lucky enough to spot whales. The town itself and the small waterfront with its cafés, stores and boutiques also invite you to stroll and linger.

You will stay in the historic and lovingly restored Parkes Manor Guest House, a stately home in a 12000 square meter park-like garden overlooking the lagoon. The waterfront or the center of Knysna can be reached in about 15 minutes on foot or a few minutes by car. DAY 7: KNYSNA

KNYSNA & NATURE PRIVATE DAY TOUR

You will be picked up at your accommodation in Knysna at 9 am. You will first visit the famous Garden Of Eden, an easily accessible section of rainforest where you will learn a lot about the indigenous flora, from oversized Yellowwood trees to small ferns. The drive then takes you to the western part of the Tsitsikamma National Park in the beautiful Natures Valley, where you take a walk along the beach in a paradisiacal setting. There is also a beautiful viewpoint, although this involves a few meters of elevation gain.

Continue along the unique coastline of the Keurbooms River Lagoon to the picturesque vacation resort of Plettenberg Bay. After a short stroll through the town or along the beach, head to a cozy restaurant overlooking the ocean for lunch (lunch optional). The drive then takes you back to Knysna, where you first drive along the impressive lagoon to the Eastern Head. From here you have a unique view over the lagoon, the town and the open sea. The last stop is the lively waterfront of Knysna, where you have the opportunity to take a leisurely boat trip on the lagoon (boat trip optional and subject to availability). You will be dropped off back at your accommodation at around 5 pm.

You will be picked up at your accommodation in Knysna at 8:30 am. Your journey first takes you along the beautiful coastline of Sedgefield and Wilderness with their beautiful lake landscapes and dense forests in the hinterland. Now you leave the green coast and drive over the imposing Outeniqua Mountains into the dry semi-desert of the Klein Karoo. A stop at a local ostrich farm is now on the program. Oudtshoorn is the ostrich capital of South Africa. Here you will learn a lot about the rearing of the largest flightless birds in the world. Continue to Karusa Wine Estate, where you can taste up to five of the locally produced wines. For those less interested in wine, the estate also has its own brewery with interesting craft beers (all tastings optional). Afterwards, you have the opportunity to have lunch at the winery (lunch optional). The winery is closed on Sundays and public holidays, when an alternative program takes place.

Your next stop is the Cango Caves, a unique stalactite cave landscape located just outside Oudtshoorn in the idyllic Schoemanshoek Valley. Here you embark on a fairly easy guided tour through huge caves and narrow passages (no climbing or crawling). You leave the dry semi-desert and drive back to the coast to Wilderness, where you make a short photo stop at the beautiful beach. You will be dropped off back at your accommodation in Knysna at around 17:30.

The tour language is English, no other people take part. The entrance fees for the Cango Caves and the ostrich farm are included in the tour price. The wine or beer tasting and lunch are not included in the tour price.

HERMANUS

The tour continues to the "whale capital" of South Africa, Hermanus. Here you have the best opportunities to watch whales from the coast between June and November. Of course, you can also take a boat trip out to sea to get even closer to the largest mammals on earth. But Hermanus also has a lot to offer outside the whale season in the South African summer. There are excellent beaches, great restaurants and the Fernkloof Nature Reserve, a unique nature reserve with typical fynbos vegetation and many hiking trails. Even winegrowing has now left its insider status here in the Coastal Region. Over 30 wineries have joined together to form various wine routes.

The Hermanus Boutique Guesthouse is located on the famous Cliff Path and within walking distance of the small town center with many restaurants and shopping opportunities. The guesthouse has a large lounge and breakfast area as well as a cozy courtyard with pool and sun loungers. The 18 rooms have a bathroom/WC (some have an open bathroom solution with separate WC), a TV, air conditioning, a tea/coffee maker, a minibar, a safe and free WiFi. DAY 10: HERMANUS

BOAT-BASED WHALE WATCHING INCL. PICK-UP

OPTIONALLY BOOKABLE FROM 135 € PER PERSON

In the South African winter months from June to November, you have the best chance of spotting Southern Right Whales (right whales) and Humpback Whales (humpbacks) in Walker Bay near Hermanus. You can get within 50 meters of these gigantic marine mammals by boat. This is an experience that no one should miss, especially if the whales are not directly on the coast. If you are lucky, you may also spot dolphins, penguins, sharks and seals during the trip.

The trip takes about two hours and starts at New Harbour in Hermanus. You will be picked up at your accommodation in good time by transfer and then dropped off there again. The tour is in English and is conducted with additional people. A small refreshment is included in the price. We recommend booking this activity in advance, especially in the popular months of October and November, as places on the boat are limited and may be fully booked on site. If the trip has to be canceled at short notice due to weather conditions, we will refund the price after your trip.

This service can be booked for an additional charge.

Stellenbosch is the heart of South African wine production. Countless wine estates are lined up next to each other, and you can get to know South Africa's fine wines at one or two wine tastings. The scenically impressive mountain ranges offer unique hiking opportunities. The second oldest city in the country has a beautiful historic city center with many listed buildings in the Cape Dutch architectural style. Cafés, restaurants and boutiques invite you to stroll and linger. Thanks to the local university, Stellenbosch is a very lively and young city, despite its historical background.

The beautiful Roosenwijn Guest House, a lovingly renovated and listed Victorian building, is located in the center of Stellenbosch. Restaurants, cafes, boutiques, the Botanical Gardens and the historic town center are all within walking distance. Countless wineries can be reached in less than 15 minutes by car.
