Day 1 to Day 4: Mashatu Game Reserve
The Mashatu Game Reserve covers 31,000 hectares of private land in the protected wilderness area known as the Northern Tuli Game Reserve. The reserve is situated at the eastern end of Botswana, where the great Limpopo and Shashe rivers meet. This exceptionally diverse landscape includes wide open plains, grasslands, riverine forests, rocky hills, marshlands and majestic sandstone ridges.
Mashatu, "land of the giants", takes its name from the locally sacred Mashatu or Nyala berry tree and the giants that roam its terrain. These magnificent dark green trees, which grow along the rivers in the reserve, provide shelter, shade and food for a variety of wildlife. Mashatu, one of the largest private game reserves in Southern Africa, has a sanctuary for the largest elephant herds on private land on the continent. In addition, the world's largest mammal, the giraffe, the world's largest antelope, the eland, the world's largest bird, the ostrich and the world's heaviest flying bird, the kori bustard, are all part of the game drive experience at Mashatu. Add the king of beasts, the lion and the iconic baobab tree and you have the seven great land giants of Africa.
Mashatu Tented Camp is embedded in the natural environment and offers an authentic safari experience. You can observe animals directly at the waterhole in front of the lodge and marvel at a gigantic starry sky at night. The lodge also has a small pool, a lounge and a boma. The eight comfortable tents are situated under shady trees and offer plenty of privacy. The tents have a small seating area outside, a bathroom/WC and a fan.
