ABOUT THIS TRIP
Experience five of South Africa's main highlights on this tour. See the Big Five in two malaria-free game reserves in the north. Breathtaking landscapes await you along Route 62 in the Little Karoo semi-desert. On the Garden Route and south coast, you will discover endless beaches and even whales in season. In the wine regions, you can enjoy fine wines and good food. Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
You don't want to drive yourself, but a small group tour doesn't have the right start date for you and a privately guided tour is too expensive? Then our English-speaking chauffeur-driven tours are just the right alternative. Your private chauffeur will take you from place to place, where you will then take part in privately guided day activities and excursions (with the exception of game viewing activities with other people). However, you do not have the all-round support of a continuous tour guide. All chauffeur-driven tours can start daily and can be adapted to your wishes at any point beforehand. The more people take part in your own chauffeur-driven tour, the lower the price per person.

DAY 1 TO DAY 3:
PILANESBERG

The malaria-free Pilanesberg National Park is located around two and a half hours' drive northwest of Johannesburg. The 55,000 hectare park is almost circular and encompasses the area of a 1200 million year old volcanic crater with a small lake in the center. The extremely scenic terrain lies in the transition zone between the dry Kalahari and the wetter lowveld, so both types of vegetation can be found here. The park is home to the Big Five and many other African wild animals and has made a name for itself in particular for its leopard breeding program.
You will spend the night in the luxurious and intimate Tambuti Lodge, which is located in a private part of the northwest of the park that is only accessible to overnight guests. The five detached suites are furnished in modern African style and equipped with a shower/WC with separate bath and additional outdoor shower, air conditioning, minibar, TV, safe, tea/coffee making facilities and a veranda with seating. The lodge offers a bar, a restaurant, a boma (traditional campfire dining area), an outdoor deck with plunge pool and free Wi-Fi.
You take part in two guided game drives per night in an open off-road vehicle, which take place in the afternoon before dinner and in the morning before breakfast (English-speaking, conducted with additional persons). Conservation fees are not included in the price and are paid on site.

The Waterberg region is still considered an insider tip in South Africa.
The luxurious Clifftop Exclusive Safari Hideaway is situated in the Welgevonden Game Reserve in a breathtaking hillside location with unique views. DAY 5: JOHANNESBURG
ONEWAY FLIGHT TO GEORGE

A domestic or regional flight is the fastest and most convenient way to cover longer distances in southern Africa. Thanks to various competitors, there is a dense network of scheduled flights to a total of more than 25 airports. All local airlines fly with modern aircraft that meet the highest safety standards and are of course regularly maintained, just like in Europe.
The flight is operated in Economy Class. Depending on the airline, only one piece of checked baggage weighing 20kg to 23kg and one piece of hand baggage are permitted per person. You will receive details with your travel documents. Additional baggage, seat reservations and other services can be booked at very reasonable prices. We recommend arriving at international airports such as Windhoek, Victoria Falls, Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town at least two hours before departure; at smaller regional airports, 90 minutes is sufficient.

DAY 5 TO DAY 7:
KNYSNA

You continue to the small town of Knysna with its famous lagoon, which is only connected to the Indian Ocean by a small strait. A boat trip on the lagoon is a real highlight. Knysna is the center of the Garden Route and offers many opportunities for daytime activities. The dense forests in the hinterland or the beautiful coastal sections are ideal for hiking, the nearby beaches for swimming and relaxing. From June to November, you may be lucky enough to spot whales. The town itself and the small waterfront with its cafés, stores and boutiques also invite you to stroll and linger.
The Turbine Boutique Hotel & Spa is located on Thesen Island, a small island connected to the Knysna mainland by a bridge. Thesen Island has many small stores, cottages and bistros. The Turbine Boutique Hotel was once a power station in the bay of Knysna and supplied the whole area with electricity in the old days until 1970. It was only in 2011 that the operation was completely discontinued, the old turbines and pipes were preserved and today look like works of art in this lovingly designed boutique hotel. There is a bar, a restaurant, a lounge, a pool and a spa area for a fee. The 24 rooms are furnished in a modern industrial-chic style and have a bathroom/WC, safe, TV, telephone, air conditioning, minibar, coffee/tea maker and free WiFi. The Standard Rooms are around 30 square meters in size. The Luxury Rooms are about 40sqm in size. The suites are up to 60 square meters in size and have a balcony.

You will be picked up at your accommodation in Knysna at 9 am. The drive then takes you to the western part of the Tsitsikamma National Park in the beautiful Natures Valley, where you take a walk along the beach in a paradisiacal setting. There is also a beautiful viewpoint, although this involves a few meters of elevation gain.
Continue along the unique coastline of the Keurbooms River Lagoon to the picturesque vacation resort of Plettenberg Bay. After a short stroll through the town or along the beach, head to a cozy restaurant overlooking the ocean for lunch (lunch optional). The drive then takes you back to Knysna, where you first drive along the impressive lagoon to the Eastern Head. From here you have a unique view over the lagoon, the town and the open sea. The last stop is the lively waterfront of Knysna, where you have the opportunity to take a leisurely boat trip on the lagoon (boat trip optional and subject to availability). You will be dropped off back at your accommodation at around 5 pm.

DAY 7 TO DAY 9:
OUDTSHOORN

Oudtshoorn is the jewel of the Little Karoo semi-desert and the largest town along Route 62. The C.P. Nel Museum in the town center explains the history of the town and its rise to become the "ostrich capital" of South Africa. A stop at one of the local ostrich farms is a must, where you can learn a lot about the largest and flightless birds in the world and admire the historic ostrich palaces. The Cango Caves, a huge stalactite cave landscape that is one of the most impressive in the world, are definitely worth a visit. Adventure-seekers with the right vehicle can take a drive over the famous Swartberg Pass, but guided tours are also available. An insider tip is the Rust en Vrede waterfall, located east of the Cango Caves. Clear nights with little light pollution make for an impressive starry sky, and professional stargazers offer appropriate evening observation activities. On several farms, the cute meerkats can be spotted early in the morning on guided tours. Some interesting wineries, such as the Karusa Estate, offer wine tastings.
The Rosenhof Country House is located on the northern outskirts of Oudtshoorn and is a Victorian-style villa that has been lovingly restored for discerning guests. The center, with its many shops and restaurants, is just a few minutes' drive away, and the Cango Caves are about a 25-minute drive away. All twelve luxurious suites have a bathroom/WC, air conditioning, minibar, safe, tea/coffee making facilities, TV, free Wi-Fi, and a veranda. The Executive Suites are located slightly apart and also offer a lounge area and a veranda with views of the Swartberg Mountains and a private plunge pool. DAY 9 TO DAY 10:
HERMANUS

The tour continues to the "whale capital" of South Africa, Hermanus. Here you have the best opportunities to watch whales from the coast between June and November. Of course, you can also take a boat trip out to sea to get even closer to the largest mammals on earth. But Hermanus also has a lot to offer outside the whale season in the South African summer. There are excellent beaches, great restaurants and the Fernkloof Nature Reserve, a unique nature reserve with typical fynbos vegetation and many hiking trails. Even winegrowing has now left its insider status here in the Coastal Region. Over 30 wineries have joined together to form various wine routes.
The luxurious Boutique Ocean Views guest house is located directly on the cliffs and offers uninterrupted sea views. The famous Cliff Path takes you within walking distance of the small center of Hermanus with its many restaurants and shopping opportunities. From June to November, you can enjoy excellent whale watching opportunities right from your accommodation. OPTIONALLY BOOKABLE FROM 135 € PER PERSON

In the South African winter months from June to November, you have the best chance of spotting Southern Right Whales (right whales) and Humpback Whales (humpbacks) in Walker Bay near Hermanus. You can get within 50 meters of these gigantic marine mammals by boat. This is an experience that no one should miss, especially if the whales are not directly on the coast. If you are lucky, you may also spot dolphins, penguins, sharks and seals during the trip.
The trip takes about two hours and starts at New Harbour in Hermanus. You will be picked up at your accommodation in good time by transfer and then dropped off there again. The tour is in English and is conducted with additional people. A small refreshment is included in the price. We recommend booking this activity in advance, especially in the popular months of October and November, as places on the boat are limited and may be fully booked on site.
