ABOUT THIS TRIP

The Wild Coast between Durban and Port Elizabeth is one of the most exciting and adventurous regions in South Africa off the beaten tourist track. In contrast to other regions of the country, travelers here still have to accept a few restrictions in terms of comfort and infrastructure. However, you will be rewarded with magnificent landscapes, secluded beaches and breathtaking natural wonders that are second to none. You will also not miss Africa's impressive wildlife, including the Big Five, in a malaria-free private game reserve near Kenton-On-Sea.

We are happy to change this tour itinerary or the rental car category according to your individual wishes. Please contact us for your personal offer. This tour can be started all year round. You should allow about two weeks for this tour. A four-wheel drive vehicle is not necessary for this route, but a car with a higher wheelbase is definitely helpful for the not always perfect road conditions between Shelly Beach and Chintsa.

ORIBI GORGE

Oribi Gorge is a breathtaking, 400-meter-deep gorge carved out by the Umzimkulwana River. It is located inland, about a 30-minute drive from Port Shepstone on the South Coast. The state-run Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve offers a variety of hiking trails within the gorge. In the Lake Eland Game Reserve, you can spot zebras and antelopes. For adventure seekers, there are several suspension bridges and ziplines across the gorge. The region is considered one of the best-kept secrets of southern KwaZulu-Natal.

All eight rooms feature a shower/toilet with a separate bathtub, air conditioning, a minibar, tea and coffee-making facilities, a TV, and a balcony overlooking the gorge. DAY 4 TO DAY 7 (APPROX. 230 KM):

PORT ST. JOHNS

Port St. Johns is located at the very northern tip of the still largely unspoiled and spectacular Wild Coast, with its many secluded beaches and stunning landscapes. The ocean and the mighty Umzimvubu River offer countless opportunities for water sports. The coast and the hinterland provide unique hiking opportunities. The beaches are paradisiacal. South Africa’s “Wild Coast” is a paradise not only for active vacationers and outdoor enthusiasts but also for anyone seeking to relax amidst the beauty of nature. The drive along the Wild Coast has an adventurous feel to it. A certain open-minded attitude is required, as this region is not yet as developed as other tourist destinations in South Africa.

Umngazi River Bungalows & Spa Resort is located directly on the Umngazi River estuary and the endless Indian Ocean. Beach walks, horse riding, water sports, mountain biking, hiking and fishing are just some of the many activities available on this pristine coastline. The 69 mostly detached bungalows are spread throughout the extensive grounds and all have a bathroom/WC, a coffee/tea maker and a terrace with an outdoor shower. The Sea View Bungalows are located on the riverbank and offer a unique view over the beach and the sea from the veranda. The Emlonyeni and Honeymoon Deluxe Sea View Bungalows are a little further away for more privacy. They are even more spacious and also offer a unique view of the sea from the veranda. The Ntabeni Deluxe Spa Seaview Suites are the most luxurious rooms on a small hill with breathtaking sea views and also have a minibar. Guests in the Emlonyeni, Honeymoon and Ntabeni room categories have access to an exclusive lounge area with a private pool. The resort offers a restaurant, a lounge, a bar, a fitness area, a spa area (for a fee), a pool, a terrace and free Wi-Fi.

Here you can slow down wonderfully in this pristine piece of Africa. Let yourself be enchanted by the dreamlike landscape, the evergreen nature and the endless sandy beaches.

Prana Lodge is the jewel in Chintsa's crown and the most luxurious accommodation on the Wild Coast. The exclusive lodge with its own spa area is situated on a private forest property with its own beach access. All eight suites offer a great deal of privacy and have a bathroom/WC, air conditioning, a TV, a minibar, a safe, a fireplace and a private forest garden with veranda and private plunge pool (Forest Suite does not have its own plunge pool). The suites are about 90sqm in size. The Diamond Suite is approximately 120 square meters in size and also offers a view of the sea. The Beach House is ideal for a private group and has four bedrooms, a private pool and direct sea views. DAY 9 TO DAY 10 (APPROX. 170 KM):

Port Alfred lies halfway between Port Elizabeth and East London, at the mouth of the Kowie River, which divides the former fishing village into two halves. Port Alfred has become a popular vacation resort. Its miles of wide, fine sandy beaches invite you to take long walks. Water sports fans can enjoy diving, swimming, water skiing and, of course, surfing.

The Oceana Beach & Wildlife Reserve is a private nature reserve covering almost 800 hectares, located directly on a 13 km stretch of pristine beach near Port Alfred. Over 200 bird species and 30 mammal species can be found here. 1X OVERNIGHT STAY WITH FULL BOARD AND 2 ACTIVITIES

DAY 10 TO DAY 12 (APPROX. 40 KM):

GREATER ADDO

The malaria-free Sibuya Game Reserve is probably one of the most unique safari destinations in South Africa. The Kariega River, which runs through the middle of the reserve, is particularly attractive. In combination with the nearby ocean, this naturally attracts an incredible variety of bird species: more than 400 different species have been counted to date. It is also a sanctuary for a rich variety of game species, from elephant to otter, and is of course home to the Big Five. After your arrival at the reception in Kenton-on-Sea, you will take a boat up the Kariega River to your accommodation at 12 noon. This approximately 9 km long trip is a unique experience in itself.

The Bush Lodge is the most luxurious lodge in the reserve and offers a great view of the pristine forests in the valley below. There are only four suites, which are housed in two detached chalets and all have en-suite bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers, air-conditioning, tea/coffee making facilities, a fireplace and an outdoor deck with seating. The lodge offers a viewing deck, a boma (traditional campfire dining area), a solar-heated pool and a lounge area with bar.

You will take part in two guided game drives per night in an open off-road vehicle (English-speaking, participation with other people), which take place in the afternoon before dinner and in the morning before breakfast. Alternatively, guided bush walks or activities on the Kariega River are available, some at an additional cost. Local drinks and conservation fees are already included in the price.
