ABOUT THIS TRIP

The Wild Coast between Durban and Port Elizabeth is one of the most exciting regions in South Africa. Here you can still experience the real Africa off the beaten tourist track. For a long time, the "Wild Coast" was reserved for adventurers and backpackers. But the infrastructure has improved in parts, fortunately without completely losing its adventurous touch. In contrast to other parts of the country, however, travelers still have to accept a few restrictions in terms of comfort. You will be rewarded with magnificent landscapes and secluded beaches that are second to none. This tour is framed by a detour to the southern Drakensberg Mountains and a stay in a private malaria-free Big Five game reserve near Kenton-On-Sea.

We are happy to change this tour itinerary or the rental car category according to your individual wishes. Please contact us for your personal offer. This tour can be started all year round. You should allow just under two weeks for this route. A four-wheel drive vehicle is not necessary for this route, but a car with a higher wheelbase is sometimes helpful.

You then have the option of having dinner in the farm's own restaurant.

DAY 11 TO DAY 13 (APPROX. 210 KM):

GREATER ADDO

The malaria-free Sibuya Game Reserve is probably one of the most unique safari destinations in South Africa. The Kariega River, which runs through the middle of the reserve, is particularly attractive. In combination with the nearby ocean, this naturally attracts an incredible variety of bird species: more than 400 different species have been counted to date. It is also a sanctuary for a rich variety of game species, from elephant to otter, and is of course home to the Big Five. After your arrival at the reception in Kenton-on-Sea, you will take a boat up the Kariega River to your accommodation at 12 noon. This approximately 9 km long trip is a unique experience in itself.

The Forest Camp is located directly on the banks of the Kariega River and is run according to ecological principles. Electricity is generated exclusively via solar cells, so that energy-intensive appliances cannot be operated - a real out-of-Africa feeling. The eight freestanding tented suites are connected by wooden walkways through the forest and have a shower/WC with separate bathtub, a fireplace and an outdoor deck. The camp offers a lounge area and a boma, where dinner is served around the campfire in good weather.

You take part in two guided game drives per night in an open off-road vehicle (English-speaking, participation with other people), which are conducted in the afternoon before dinner and in the morning before breakfast. Alternatively, guided bush walks or activities on the Kariega River are available. Local drinks and conservation fees are already included in the price.

GREATER ADDO

OPTIONALLY UPGRADEABLE FROM 350 € PER PERSON

The private Kariega Game Reserve is located about an hour's drive east of Port Elizabeth in the beautiful Eastern Cape bush landscape between Bushmans River and Kariega River. The malaria-free reserve covers almost 12,000 hectares and is home to the Big Five - elephants, lions, buffalo, rhinos and leopards - as well as many other African wild animals. In contrast to the state national parks, only overnight guests have access to the private reserves. These are therefore much better suited to a short stay for unique animal sightings. The small lodges also offer a very personal atmosphere. Specially trained rangers ensure a first-class nature experience.

Ukhozi Lodge embodies the true romance and intimacy of Africa. With its hidden location in the bush, it offers its guests a lot of privacy and a unique panoramic view of a valley. The ten luxurious detached chalet suites have a bathroom/WC, air conditioning, minibar, safe, telephone and a veranda with a view and private plunge pool. The lodge offers a restaurant, a bar, a viewing deck, a boma (traditional campfire dining area) and a pool with sun deck.

For each overnight stay you take part in two guided game drives in an open off-road vehicle (English-speaking, participation with other people), which take place in the afternoon before dinner and in the morning before breakfast.

This service can be booked for an additional charge.

DAY 13 TO DAY 14 (APPROX. 150 KM):

PORT ELIZABETH

Port Elizabeth (new name Gqeberha) prides itself on being South Africa's city with the most days of sunshine. Leisure and water sports are therefore very important in this busy city. There are exceptionally beautiful beaches in the immediate vicinity of the city, in particular Humewood and Summerstrand. As it is often quite windy in Port Elizabeth, sailing and windsurfing are popular leisure activities.

The Admiralty Beach House is located 150m on foot from the beach. The Summerstrand shopping center, restaurants and cafés as well as the Humewood golf course are also within walking distance. Port Elizabeth Airport is about a ten-minute drive away. The ten maritime-style rooms all have a bathroom/WC, a fan, heating, a minibar, a tea/coffee maker and a veranda. The Luxury Double Rooms are approximately 30 square meters in size. The Studio Suites are approximately 40m² to 50m² in size and also have air conditioning.
